BMW 340i MPPSK vs Std

A quick video showing the difference between the standard exhaust on a BMW 340i and the MPPSK exhaust which I've just had fitted. Unfortunately the video doesn't really give an accurate impression of how much louder MPPSK is, especially Sport Mode, which is mental.

wait one minute after start up. that's when the computer allows for pops and bangs. you hear the flap open after one minute. pay attention in your video, you hear it open. try the next time how it sounds after start up. before and after the minute

Yes I felt there was some electronic control going on in the background. The MPPSK exhaust was only fitted yesterday so I'm still learning its traits.

Cool. Even the stock one has this. I have full Awe exhaust on mine which has no flaps but the computer still sends a signal to the electric spring to open the flap. You still hear it activating the spring even though the flap isn't there. Bmw put that in there as a fail safe to allow the engine to get up to a little warm temp before you do anything aggressive. It won't burble stock or performance before then. The computer won't allow it.

Speed & Torque 101 I've done some more research and it's the ECU controlling the wastegate that's the cause. Every start goes through a cold-start routine whereby the wastegate is open for approx 1 minute after start up. During this time the exhaust bypass valve remains shut irrespective of what drive mode the car is in. After 1 min (approx) the wastegate closes and then the exhaust valves become active.

Sounds brilliant! Love the reflection of the Caterham too :-) Hoping to pick up a 340i touring in the new year, so will see how the standard exhaust sounds after a few thousand miles.

@@Nattymatty7 your in the same boat as me. Stuck between logic and pleasure the Lexus Is very reliable and cheaper but it has to be worst Performing car in the category. Spend the money enjoy your self go for the 340i. I was biting my nails on adding the mppsk 3 years ago and it was the best choice Iv ever made I might even buy my lease out next month. Mppsk all the way!

Thanks for posting this, it helps me get by whilst I wait for my 440i GC arriving end of Nov. I'm getting the power and sound kit added as soon as it arrives, where it looks like you had your car without it for a spell. Love the chuckle at the end of the video. I expect you're doing that a lot! 😋

Mine was in production but only in the accepted order stage when I had the dealer add on the MPPSK. I figured its cheaper than having it retro fitted although I haven't seen an install price anywhere for it. My 440i GC is still in the fist stage because of a shortage of individual paint so I don't think Ill see it before Christmas.

Simply terrific!!!! Fantastic sound, for me the 40i MPPSK is the definitive upgrade! I've got MPPK, DP HJS 300 cells, resonator delete and MPE on my 435i and I'm very happy of the sound, but... Yours is over the top!!!

It does have more go, especially the mid-range, but it's the sound that's the major change. MPPSK Comfort is now like standard Sport mode, but slightly deeper and a touch louder. MPPSK Sport mode is just mental! *MUCH* louder, loads of pops & bangs, and then full blown artillery on WOT lifts. It's fabulous!

Question: does the m performance exhaust fit any bmw 340 such as base models? Or does it have to have the m sport package with the body differences?

Oscar Castillo if you’re referring to the sound in sport mode, it does sound a bit hollow when the system is first installed. The sound gets much deeper as the exhaust gets broken in :)

Dang and I thought my n55 with catless dp and bmw.pe sounded great . def looking into upgrading to 340i with mppk1 and 2.I was also thinking of getting silver with coral red interior ....how do you like the color combo ?

Thanks. I love the Glacier Silver and Coral Red combination. It works very well with the exterior of the car being understated and easy to keep clean, yet the inside add some colour to the cabin (the Panoramic Roof really helps here too).

Coral Red would work well with both Glacier Silver and Mineral Grey. Both are nice exterior colours.

The 340 is a fabulous car - the stock sound was great not sure I'd bother to update to mperformace I have a 201- 335 msport two years now content with the sound definitely looking forward to a 340 in a few years

Yeah my friend who has a 328i was all like get the MPPSK and I was like I will! I have a 2016 340i M Sport. But I have to say I fell in love with the stock exhaust. Especially in sport mode after the engine has warmed up. Love the pops and crackles. Still tho, not hating on the MPPSK at all.
