@Aaron Simoson No problem mate 👍🏻 Its shocking how often people get told that the car has been serviced when it actually hasn't.

Question 🙋♂️. The engine air filter air box. Does the top half of the airbox have a filter? My 525 doesn’t have one
@TheBimmerFixer2 жыл бұрын
@Herb N Hi Herb, no it just has the one filter in the air box 👍🏻

Because of that I came to see this video. I changed also lower air filter as he did, but after I found out that upper part has also some filter with plastic bottom

What did you do with the copper washer You skipped right over that for the oil filter change
@TheBimmerFixer2 жыл бұрын
@SMASH MONSTER Sorry I didn't make that very clear. The copper washer replaces the old copper washer on the sump plug. Thanks for pointing that out 👍🏻

BMW recommended me to use 0W-30 LL04, but everyone is using different types and cant seem to confirm which is best and the right one. So which one do I use? My 525i has done 118k miles if that helps.
@TheBimmerFixer Жыл бұрын
@shafkhan4098 Hi yeah it can get really confusing. BMW will always recommend what it came with from factory however with time, age and mileage some oils are better than others because of the wear on the engine. It can also be affected by where you live us the temperature can effect it too. Somewhere colder might need a thinner oil and hotter places a thicker oil. Where are you based?

Hi sorry im coming late but I was in the same boat as I wanted to do my service, called bmw they said 0w30 as that’s factory but 5w30 is absolutely fine too

Im based in the UK. London, which doesnt actually help the engine, but I do motorway runs once a month.@TheBimmerFixer

I'm definitely late to the party but my recommendation would be 5w-40 if its high mileage. The first digits will indicate thickness at low temperature (0 would be the thinnest so great for very cold climates to quickly lube at start up, while 10 would be thicker, good in warmer climates since it'll stick to the higher components for longer when engine is off) and second set of digits indicates thickness at higher temperatures from 20 to 30 to 40 and so on. Older engines will have bigger gaps between components due to wear (talking fraction of mm but still important) so thicker oil will have slightly larger molecules to fill in those gaps to properly lubricate while also keeping the temperatures due to friction lower as well. But at the end of the day, as long as the oil is changed often enough (I personally always did 6-9k miles and never had an engine failure) together with filter, the oil thickness is of 2nd importance. Hope this helps

iv read its actually 6.9 when also changing the filter and 6.5 if you dont change the filter i do just over 6.9 also do you use 0w40 or 5w30 i do 0w40 6 and the last bit 5w30 just to thin it a little bit i also live were its never cold so don't have too worry about cold starts
@TheBimmerFixer2 жыл бұрын
Really! Thats interesting. Ok well BMW spec say 5.3 for the M47 engine and If I was changing the oil I would also change the filter too. I used 5w 40 because of the colder weather and cold starts but if its nice and warm were you are you can definitely use a thicker oil and like you say it will last longer too.

@@TheBimmerFixer hello but ask me something the oil level sanser is not working how to check engine oil ? Manually
@TheBimmerFixer2 жыл бұрын
@jdm machines Hello my friend. The only way to know without the oil level sensor it to measure how much oil is being put back in after it has been drain completely. My 525i N52b25 is 6.5 litters. If you can I would change the sensor as soon as possible because if the oil drops below the minimum you wouldnt know about it until its too late and you could end up with a broken engine.
