BMW E60 530i OIL CHANGE, AIR AND CABIN FILTERS REPLACEMENT DIY

Changing oil and filters on 2009 BMW 530i E60 gen. It´s a pretty easy and strait forward DIY job and no special tools or lift are required. All the tool sizes and torque specs in the video and below.
I used Shell Helix Ultra 5W-30 approved by BMW, meeting the BMW LL-04 specs.
Torque specs:
- oil filter cap - 25 Nm
- drain bolt - 25 Nm
Socket sizes:
- 8 mm socket - splash shield
- 17 mm socket - sump plug
- 13 mm socket - cabin filter
This guide works for me. But I´m not a professional, so no guarantee here... Follow this at your own risk.
Especially the engine flush. If you choose to use it, consider the state of your engine. If it has been neglected, it could loosen large chunks of deposits and block oil passages.

I have watched several videos for oil change on an e60, but yours was the absolute best. From the start you listed all the parts and tools needed, no rambling intro like others about, "well I have this car that needs some work, it's a... and so today I'm gonna show, oh sorry about my dog barking...". But the exact moment I was sure I liked your stuff was when I saw that "professional floor mat". LOL, That was awesome! Great video.

@@DIYProjectX One of multiple reasons I watched yours after 3 or 4 others is because some E60 have the oil plug aligned horizontally out the side, while others are vertically, like yours and mine. Don't know which years are H or V, but anyway. Mine is 2009. One other useful tip for any viewers reading this is while the oil is draining, if you are not in a wind-free area, oil trickles in the latter stages are thin and wispy, so keep your drain pan close and shield the floor from any crosswind. You live, you learn. :)

It would probably just leak, if it wasn't tight enough.

I hear Walmart's Supertech oil is basically the same as Mobil 1 but performed better when testing and it is cheaper

You get an upvote for the name sir +1 I have also heard this. I use the 14 dollar supertech full syn on my Toyotas and Honda's and I change it at 7k miles no problems ever. The BMWs and Saabs always get Castrol though just a peace of mind thing i guess and they get changed at 5k miles. One of these days I might try a supertech 5w30 in the bmw tho it is half the price literally

Fresh engine oil.

I wouldn't advise anyone to put the new oil filter on the ground (or grass as in this video) as it could pickup some loose dirt (e.g. soil, sand, other hard particles) which could then go directly into the engine on install. You don't want any avoidable contaminant debris in your engine. Just a care-point tip.

@@DIYProjectX I'm getting same type but a 528xi. I noticed some oil gathered around the transmission pan underneath. Car shifts fine though. I have also seen your DIY on trans fluid change. Do you reckon the oil around the trans pan would be a major issue with the tranny itself or just a fluid change should solve it?

@@pixelart59 If it´s just a mist around the pan, it shouldn´t be a problem when it comes to fluid level. If it´s actively dripping, that could be worse. In any case, if you do the fluid change, you will have to swap the pan for a new one. That comes wtith integrated filter and the pan gasket. That should fix the leak.
