I can't find any information on when it should be open and close. If you know am thankful for an answer.

I don't know the criteria for opening/close at first with the concept of self-diagnosis and then opening.

It shouls be that when you are cruising it will shut for a few minutes to gain mpg. But when it needs it it will open for cooling. The problem is that the engine need air most of the time so this is just gimmick

Clearly this is a diesel 530d not a 530i as its petrol, either that or those injectors are a bit noisy.
