BMW 540i brake booster replacement

For anyone who doesn't know, rain/wash water drips onto the brake booster, due to bad plastic/rubber by the cabin air vents, then gets stuck inside the booster, sometimes damaging the booster, and sometimes causing water to get sucked into the engine. Sometimes removing the water works, but sometimes the damage is already done and a new booster is needed. Extremely common issue. Thanks for the video!

Thanks for the video Joe. Im doing the whole thing this weekend on my X5. Replacing booster, vacuum line, and rebuilding the vacuum pump with new seals. I've used ISTA D to bleed the brakes successfully before but I'm hoping to not introduce air into the line before the ABS module.

Dont buy them from BME for 600 USD. THey installed originally Lucas up until late 1999. When Lucas was bought by TRW. But then in 2014 TRW was bought by ZF Friedrichshafen. SO when you know order a TRW brake booster for like 200usd, you have the same quality as the 600 USD version from BMW ,as they both come from TRW. What about that.

@@omarortega3717 I just purchased a TRW booster. It literally has the "LUCAS" with the BMW cut off. TRW was clearly the OEM manufacturer lol.

James Jang for sure it can , if the booster has a leak than you will get no assist, be sure to check the vacuum line at the booster

Anyone run into the air stuck in the ABS module? That's the one thing I'm afraid of. I've vacuumed brake fluid before, but not with an ABD module.

How did the brake booster get filled with water? I've heard of this happening and that you can get a hydrolocked engine if that water makes its way into the ccv but how do you get water in it lol

The plastic/rubber rain gutters fail and water gets into the engine bay area, usually falling on the brake booster. Exact thing happened to me and caused my booster to fail, and sound like water dripping with every brake press. Kinda funny sound too.

Dude … you edited where the the rod goes into the new booster the orientation of that is hugely important

ok thank you man , I noticed this happening right after it rained, the brake pedal sounded there is water in it when i push it, so its range how would the water would get in. If you have any further assumptions let me know, Thank you man your video is really a good guide.
