BMW 635csi Sleeper Turbo Puts Down All The Torque!

Today Doug brought his car by the hub dyno for a tune. The M30b35 Turbo effortlessly puts down some big numbers and its not even near it max potential!

Hey guys. I built my turbo 635CSi 15 years ago now. I still run pump fuel (98 octane) and 26psi. It has been putting down 515rwhp (hub dyno) since then with no issues. Shortly after the engine build two rocker arms broke due to the cam grind, double valve springs and the speed the engine spun up. After replacing them with Billet arms and rocker locks I have not had another issue. For my fuel I run a Bosch motorsport pump with twin dash 6 braided lines to the modified fuel rail that feeds from both ends and returns from the middle via an SX rising rate fuel pressure regulator. For a shorter inlet path I installed a 5.0 throttle body on the opposite side of the manifold. Not too many modified 635CSi's here in Australia.

This sounds sick, very impressed with the numbers it's putting down. I plan on turbocharging my E34 535i in the near future , M30B35 also. Is he running rocker arm locks? They could help prevent any rocker arms from breaking, I have a set in my M30B35 . The rocker arm locks replace the shaft springs so the the rocker arm can't walk off the cam lobe in high rpm situations. Bimmerheads sells the locks for $100 or you can get some from ebay for like $20 for 10.

What about driveline stress? I know there's a 2 piece driveshaft and half shafts. Then there's the Getrag transmission. I currently own a 82 euro spec version that I have no need for the engine because I'm not a fan of inline 6's. I plan on using my turbo 4.8 LS.

Keep in mind there’s 35+ year old technology in this motor. This engine was phased out around 1990 if I remember correct

The old M20/M30 engines have terrible head design. They do not take well to boost. The M50 and new engines are much better for boost, like what is in the Z cart.
