My 2014 640D Gran Coupe is probably the best car I've ever owned, the performance, running costs, reliability and how it looks its pretty much perfect
@trevore5148 Жыл бұрын
I’ve owned my current 640d for just over three years and it never fails to bring a smile to my face. Mine is a 2011 model which has covered just over 40k miles and is used as a second car, kept in the garage and cherished. My first one was a 2013 model which I sold to buy a Maserati GT MC Shift. I fitted updated suspension but it still didn’t handle as well as the 640. I then bought an Aston Martin DBS which was a stunning car but I was afraid to leave it anywhere and it cost me a fortune in servicing, road tax and fuel. I eventually sold the Aston and bought my current 640. It is, as you said, pretty much perfect in all areas. I can’t think of another car I’d rather own.

I currently own a 640d and my previous car was a 635d. In my opinion the newer 640 is a little bit better in ever way with the exception of build quality, the 635 was a more solid car. For an example try opening and closing the glove box on both, that theme continues throughout. On the subject of fuel economy in the real world there not what bmw say, I achieve around 36 around the doors and about 50 on a run and I'm a very fuel conscious driver. After that reality check, I do rate the 640 as a brilliant all rounder and would definitely recommend it.

In Italy this car has high year taxes unfortunately, because of the HP. Basic year tax is 760 euro. Plus extra tax for every HP over 250 HP, depending on registration year. A 2012 car would pay a little over 1.000 euro. A very recent one would land easily over 1.600 euro year tax. Insurance would also be extremwly expensive as they also go according to value of the car AND no. of HP. Then you would have regional registration tax when buying a used one, where I live it would be another 1.200 euro, as it is partly a fixed sum and partly according to HP. ....😢

Not the BMW, but a couple of years ago, my family owned the old Audi SQ5 TDI. It also had a 3.0 V6 Diesel Engine, which produced around 313 hp (not bhp) and 650 (!) Nm of torque. Now that car was simply brilliant. While I myself would never buy an SUV because I despise them, it had all you could want from a car: A lot of torque for acceleration, it was really good in terms of fuel consumption, when we as a family travelled it was a comfortable ride. While I was too young for a drivers license at that time, nowadays I would very much like to drive it. Sadly then the VW Diesel scandal occurred and my family sold that car before it’s value went down with the desire of Diesel cars. It’s kinda sad because there were a lot of well engineered Diesels around 5-10 years ago, which all kinda disappeared after the Diesel scandal.

Have owned a 640D coupe 62 plate since June 2017 with 51k and now sitting at 65k. love this car even more than my E39 525 sport back in 2002. Great car to drive especially on long road trips, very comfortable driving position, however not great for adult rear passengers as not to much room, luckily do not have 4 up that often. There have been one or two issues that have wiped the smile off my face. Firstly, the rear diff went in June with no prior warning. Bill for £1200 for replacement second hand part including fitting, not a happy bunny as have a number of previous beemers with up to 150K problem free. Second problem last October, passenger foot well with 3 inches of water. Yes that well hidden BMW phenonium of the Yellow plastic insert in the main bulkhead. Never heard of this issue before, however it turns out to be a major problem throughout the BMW model range. That was only £99 to have it replaced. As I park nose down on my drive, now getting water ingress to the boot from the seal along the bumper where the water gathers. Other than that I love this car and intend keeping it for a long time

Only on certain cars with certain boxes or if you use a bad tuner, It really depends. I know a few people with mapped BMW diesels and none of had any major issues thus far apart from one person who had a budget remapped 325d manual who had severe issues after around 6 months but he only paid £250 for the map so you get what you pay for lol. One tuner I looked at online quoted dyno proven 400 bhp on these 640ds and there were 2 reviews on thier website of people who had done it one of which had waited almost a year to review it and none had any issues. I guess there's always realibilty risks when remapping any car but if you do homework, use the right tuner and the right car it does reduce.

@HSGAutomotive2 жыл бұрын
It’s not really necessary to do it as often as I did here, but in slow moving start-stop traffic it reduces strain and excess heat on the transmission, since ‘D’ is trying to drive the car forward, and the brakes are holding it back. 👍

@HSGAutomotive3 жыл бұрын
I suspect specific owners may reply to this question in future, but for the moment I'll say as a non 640d owner, but the former owner of a mapped Teg V10, that the only significant drawback (as long as it's done by a competent brand rather than an upstart with their laptop of course) is that the higher power and especially torque put more stress on components. This only usually becomes a major issue if you drive the car hard *all* the time, which most owners likely won't.
@pascalg16563 жыл бұрын
In all honesty, you don't really need it. Yes you always want more power, but I've never thought 'this car isn't fast enough'. The diesel torque really helps.
