Hello Mr. Heiko, Thank you so mich for the hints and tips and makingr a video of it it really help me out since I have the same motorcycle as yours and mine was just a toaster tank. Im quite afraid on cleaning out my carburators its very easy as there is a ton of videos on youtube but maybe If I removed one or both of my carburator I might end having a problem once I install them and they wont be in synch or harmony.

Thank you for the video!! This will help me test my carbs out.

Ps: I did use a Chinese rebuild kit. It works just fine.

I fixed my floats on my r60/5 bings with Amal viton tipped needles with adjustment of tab after. No leaks on side stand now. Clogging of accelerator pump in carb will cause sputtering and bogging at high speeds.

Let me start my reply with a disclaimer: I am not an expert on all aspects of airhead, I am especially not an expert on the R60/5 carb but I am pretty sure that your Bing carburetor does not have an acceleration pump. The high speed hesitation is most likely caused by a low fuel level in your float bowl. As you mentioned you just adjusted your float level to stop it from leaking when on the side stand. That adjustment lowered the fuel level and therefore the fuel amount present in the carburetor. When running down the road with Wide open Throttle the low fuel level adjustment will now cause fuel starvation. I would recommend to adjust your float level again to a higher level and maybe adjust your kickstand so that the bike doesn't lean as far as before. If I remember correctly I am showing a method of adjusting the float level in this video. Good luck. Heiko

@@HeikosGarage There is an accelerator in the big jet a series of passages with a spring. That is what I was referring too.

@@441rider just looked at a parts fiche. You are right, it does have an accelerator. I still think the full throttle hesitation is caused by low fuel level in the float bowl. Good luck

I used a chinese carb rebuild kit a couple of years ago, the O-rings were ok, probably not exact size, but worked fine. The diaphragms however are thicker and less supple than the oem ones, so I left those out. kit was very cheap, but if I know the chinese, material quality and life expectancy of the components are probably shorter than BMW ones.

So what’s the verdict? Did replacing the floats cure the sputtering issue?
@HeikosGarage Жыл бұрын
The verdict: the fuel level in the carb was set too low. I had to adjust the floats to bring the fuel level up. I did that by taking the float bowl off and letting fuel run through the float needle valve. The float should be parallel to the bottom surface of the carb when it turns the fuel off. Mine would shut off the fuel too early. A tiny manipulation with the screw driver and i got it adjusted perfectly. Now the bike runs without issues.

Thanks for the video! Where did you buy the float bowls from? I have a 1978 r100/7 and can’t find a proper float bowl. My right carb is leaking same way as you described yours was leaking... Thanks!

I think i bought it directly from Bing. If i find the webpage I'll post it.

Bingcarburetor.com is the address.

Thanks, Heiko! My 1983 R100RS is also suffering from fuel starvation on one side when running flat out for a prolonged time, so now I'll check both the floats and the fuel flow rate. 🙂 BTW, where are you from originally?

On my bike the culprit was the float adjustment. After adjusting those the problem was fixed. Germany.
