Glad it worked. I always have waze on too, cool trick if you didn't know. You can go into the shortcuts app in the iphone and once youre in there you can go into automations and have things set up so that when carplay connects, waze will open and be ready to go every time you get into the car.

I believe it was the hard reset that fixed problem. ( carplay connects and works in backround [found out from screenshot] but wont open on screen to see navigation etc. ) I also reset phone settings before.

Check to make sure your software is up to date. Hard reboot helps, update apps and services helps, could also be phone related too.

Glad it worked! Yes sometimes depending on phone updates it can mess up the connection time to time. The hard reset fixes a lot of the similar bugs and even if the Idrive screen was frozen, etc.

Didn't quite understand the question? Are you trying to make the map arrow face forward? If so, you can press the compass button on the BMW Maps and that should change the direction of travel on that map.

Thanks Mate! Just got myself a 2020 Bimma and I was contemplating contacting the Service Department. For some reason, my WIFI connection would not enable and therefore the Appleplay would not activate. After a "HARD" reset (by holding down the volume button) the screen shut off and the system reset. WIFI was then enabled and I could connect with Apple Play.

Hey Sydney, I wouldn't worry too much. There has been a few complaints about that. Ever since the update people have been getting the same issue. Couple things to try, make sure your phone is up to date as well and follow the steps in the video if you havent already. I would assume BMW will fix the issue asap and it will be done remotely but we'll have to be patient with it.

Hello i just added carplay to my 2009 BMW X5 no sound when i play pandora or sirius xm the auxiliary on the car is grayed out the installer guy said i have to take it to the BMW dealership because the AUX is locked out is there away around that. Thanks if you have any suggestions.

My apple car play is working but the text message banner is not appearing on the BMW screen when I get a text. I can hear my phone get the text and can ask Siri to read message in my car while holding down the button on the steering wheel and that works. The banner is a glitch that BMW is still working on, I've had another client mentioned this recently. They will be releasing a software update to resolve it but may be a few more months.

Also on IPhone, when delegating the Bluetooth settings go into Wi-Fi. At top right of screen hit edit. There will be a lot of Wi-Fi connections listed. Scroll down and delete the BMW one also. Mine was called DIRECT-BMW 1234. After doing this I was once again able to connect to CarPlay.

Good point, haven't tried this one yet but will give it a shot next time. I could have been that the vehicle was trying to establish a connection with the hotspot of the BMW but may have not been going through because the hotspot trial was up. I've seen this happen before and could be related.

CarPlay used to work on my 2022 x5. As soon as I uploaded iOS 18.1 on iPhone now it will only connect on bmw side but not on CarPlay side. Any suggestions? I’ve tried all of the fixes you have posted. Thanks

It's been very finiky lately since that update. I am expecting things to get better within the next couple weeks. Try those tricks the other thing new that i've found was that when you delete the car from the phone in the bluetooth settings, you can also delete the "wifi-direct" in the wifi settings and also in the carplay settings of the phone. Try that in combination with the tricks in the video above and might work better before the release a new software update.

@@BeamerView thank you for your suggestions. Yesterday I deleted the phone from the car and bmw on the iPhone and got CarPlay to work. But iOS 18.0.1 will no longer work with Bluetooth. It now connects via WiFi . Instead of bmw 27278, it connects to direct-bmw 27278. At present everything works but much different. Yesterday while driving I received a text message. My music stopped, Sri read out the text message. Then my music came back on. I never received a message prompt or was given the opportunity to respond to the text. Any suggestions? Also do you know when bmw will be pushing out a software upgrade for iOS 18.0.1 ? I am certain I’m not the only one experiencing these issues. Thank you.

Ty for the info. Seems still to be a glitch in CarPlay. When I’m listening to SiriusXM and begin to open CNN (or some other websites as well) the music cuts out and won’t allow me to play music while I’m watching that site. Oddly Waze open up on the screen as well. Any idea ? Used to be when I adjusted my video line of watching a video of n WhatsApp Apple media would be triggered to boot on and would play over the video also. Hope I explained it properly.

Good question, nothing on that yet. I do know that these newer cars are glitchy, but I’m sure they will be releasing software updates to resolve them. I’ve had a couple instance where I was playing around with the car and random glitches would just pop up on the screen!

Would have to see it in person to see what's going on. I'm sure you've already tried it but doing a hard reset like what was mentioned in this video as the number 2 fix may solve the issue. If not, it could be the phone itself. You can do the same type of reboot on the phone as well, to do this.. PRESS / TAP VOLUME UP PRESS / TAP VOLUME DOWN HOLD THE RIGHT SIDE BUTTON UNTIL THE PHONE GOES BLACK See if that works, if not, I would also make sure the software in the car is up to date, along with the phones as well. A Apple Genius may know more about the phones as well, it may be a good idea to setup and appointment with them worst case.

Congrats on the m340, glad you got it to work =) You can do a sunroof re-calibration by holding down the sunroof button IN for like 30 secs, let it do it's thing, let go when it stops.

Hi, I have tried all those steps and my 2018 BMW 440ci is connected, everything works, but music. It recognizes the playlists, even controls the song I want to listen to. BUT, when you press play, the timer does not start counting down on the song, and the music does not play. I have an iPhone 13 ProMax and running 16.6 iOs. Help please, I'm soooo frustrated!

Quite odd, I would try another app to see you're having the same issue. If its just that app then the music app itself may need an update. Also try turning up the volume on both the phone and the car, also make sure it's not on mute. Sounds like a glitch if it still doesn't seem to work!

I know waze does have a lag, one where it kinda never moves, for that I just restart the app and does the trick. As for the delay it has not been an issue for me ever. I would try another phone and also check to see if those apps needs updates.

Agreed, crazy how small glitches affect these vehicles like that. Mainly has to do with 2 different companies being involved such as APPLE and android.

Still have problems w CarPlay music . Occasionally the car connects to CarPlay . Then going to music plays 2 songs and just stops at next song . Touchscreen does nothing by hitting play . Help ! Omg

May have been a software issue at this time. Software updates usually do the trick along with rebooting the idrive as I did in this video.

Weird glitch my system works and my pandora will automatically play but i cant get into the actual apple play. Thanks for the info i was able to get my system reset and now its back working

Hey Petr, seems like a glitch with apple CarPlay or those certain apps. Try restarting the phone, do a hard reset on the phone. Also in the video shown, try holding down that volume knob and refreshing the idrive. Also make sure all the APPS are up to date as well, along with the phone. If all fails, you may just have to wait it out till the next update on the phone. You can also try another phone to see if its phone related.

I can connect to Apple Car play wth no issues. The problem I am experiencing is "dead zones" where there appears to be something that interferes with the WiFi connection and causes CarPlay to crash. It happens in the same two spots on my daily commute. I took my car to the dealership and they said there is nothing wrong with the hardware of the car itself. I then spoke to a "genius" from BMW NA that told me that it was an issue with cellular service, but this is not true because it happens even when I am listening to a saved podcast or music directly from the phone (I can put the phone in airplane mode and carplay still connects). I have two different iPhones a 12 and a 14 and they both do the same thing. When they gave me a loaner 2023 BMW 330i I experienced the same phenomenon so it doesn't appear to be an isolated problem with my 2023 330e alone. If I don't use CarPlay and just connect the phone via bluetooth I have no issues and it never disconnects. This tells me there is some kind of issue with the WiFi Antenna since this is the modality that CarPlay uses to connect to the phone. If BMW hadn't taken away the option of using a cable I would just use the hardwire option, but instead BMW made it so that the only way to connect to CarPlay is via a wireless conneciton. This is driving me absolutely insane as it makes CarPlay basically unuseable. Has anyone else been experiencing this?

Hey Nick, thanks for reaching out. I am no cellular expert but if it does happen in the same two spots of your commute it could be a combination of both. One thing I would try is if you have another friend who has a different cell service all together to see if that does things differently. I know what you mean in a way because in my friends neighborhood there is also a spot where the connection drops all together, it's really weird. If there was anything i'd recommend it's the same tricks that were mentioned in the video above and of course making sure the phone and car are both up to date.
