BMW Differential Fluid Change - E92 335i

If this is the first time it's performed, the metal flakes are most likely from when the diff wore into itself. If you have the same amount on the next oil change, then I'd be worried. Great video!

Getting an lsd installed soon ;DD Was told in the instructions that I need to fill it with me fluid, but i noticed there was only one plug. Thanks for the video! Looking forward to the smell 😤

Hmm... my car is making a humming noise. I thought it was the wheel bearing but seems like its not cuz no vibrations or noise changes when turning the wheel left to right... Im wondering if my diff fluid is gone or my diff is done... Would replacing the fluid make the humming noise go away? Its very loud and increases in noise as i go faster... it seriously sucks but def confirmed its not a wheel bearing ...

Beamer and the Beast I don’t really think this would create a noise, but it’s cheap and easy enough where it’s worth doing to take it off the list of possible things creating thr noise

@@erenoglu it was a wheel bearing... new york roads are bad... but PA roads are the worst in the usa.. Could of went bad hitting those bumps on the highway

Question- I topped my diff fluid with liqui moly. The oil in the diff was clean already. Do you think mixing diff fluid can cause issues?

If they're different weights its probably not going to be an issue, but personally I would have just replaced the fluid regardless while I was down there

What’s the importance of doing this? How does it help the car

the fluid lubricates the differential, and like any gear oil, should be replaced at the appropriate intervals. It gets broken down over time not only from heat, but the gears within can leave metal particles in the fluid over time, which is why mine appeared so metallic. The metal particles can eventually cause damage, and not allow the fluid to dissipate heat as well as it initially did. Not to mention a lot of the time, the fluid can become a sludge like substance. For me the proof that my fluid was beyond its due date was when I drove the car after. Much smoother, and noticeable quieter. That could be because my fluid was far too old.

No dedicated drain at the low point of the diff. Typical BMW. The more I work on my E90 the more I understand why ze Germans lost WWII.
