Having finished my apprenticeship over 25 years ago in welding and fabrication. My old boss mr g Craig. A wizard with a torch . Said stay away from cars . Years later I did a mk2 fiesta. Not easy chasing holes . I’m still welding today and loving my job . new to the channel came over from mat Armstrong yesterday. Look forward to seeing what you do with his car . Amazing work by the looks of it . Total respect ✊

thanl You Steve, after watching You working i started to repair my car. I started with small inside parts, so the result will no be visible because the result is not showable. I have only vise and hammer. By chance, the car has very few problems outside. Next step will be on engine and for that part, i am more confident. If ever You don't know where to go for the next holidays, You will be warmly welcome in Philippines with free accomodation and food, just for some shaping and welding lessons ;-)

Apply the zinc spray only where you weld. Other paints don't adhere well to it- they peel off. Try some epoxy paints on bare metal.
@yorkshirecarrestoration Жыл бұрын
Don't worry everything gets rubbed down before anything is applied over the top. It's on placed on to stop any corrosion while we are attending to other repairs.

Hello again Steve, thanks once again for an inspiring vid. I have a question for you, the white db6 that you have in the workshop, is that a customer car? I have only once seen a white db6, it was in about 1986 and I was driving a truck back then. I was driving out of Holywell in north Wales and it was on a driveway and looked as though it had not moved in quite a long time, I couldn`t stop but I determined that I was going to knock about it next time I was passing, alas it was a long time between trips there and the car disappeared. It wouldn`t be the same car would it? Oh chances missed eh? Grab them with both hands and don`t procrastinate is the moral of this story. Thanks again Steve. Kind regards, Paul.

I don't know tbh. It is a customers car so that can pose the question :)

Dunno about ye but I find bimmers far easier to repair than most other makes - there's a more logical layering of the panels & the shapes are usually pretty simple to replicate. Did the footwell on a ford today - 7 layers of steel to repair.. 7.. just to get back out to the eighth - the outer sill & wing layers. "PITA" about sums it up by comparison.

I find the 80's cars seem to be easier for me but iv never analised why James :)
@jamesward5721 Жыл бұрын
@@yorkshirecarrestoration I do a lot of earlier yokes- Mk1 Escorts, early oddball Fords, real early Volvos - all curves, swoops & do yer head in shapes - rebuild a Mk1 Escort bonnet, making the repair sections from scratch - your head would melt at the shapes you have to recreate.. I just find that in comparison, the likes of these bimmers are far less brain-melting & a lot more relaxing in comparison. Dunno - just my 2c. Then again, I fixed the crashed-in bumper on a 2007 Vitara suv today & it was like a holiday, lol. No rust - just some plastic to sort??? Mint!

@@tomthompson7400 Mk4 Escort - drivers/passengers footwells going out to the sills - between the floor, the chassis reinforcement under the floor & all the layers of A pillar, sills, sill reinforcement blah blah, they are a trial... I am now fully refreshed on what a trial as I was at another today, cutting my way in. Lucky me, I get to weld my way back out tomorrow..
