Agreed. Your comment made me think about my late father. He once said he really liked the engine in my BMW E24. But it was a pity the design was so simple and dull. He drove a Citroën DS himself lol. There was iust no other car for him I guess 😅.

About 35 years ago I was staying in a small boutique hotel in Exeter U.K. The owner had a beautiful black 635csi fully loaded and immaculate. His pal had a similarly specked 911 Turbo, both parked in the courtyard of the hotel. It was a warm summer’s evening. I really didn’t want to go to my room that night.

What a big difference between your quality repairs versus that of a cheaper body shop. Yours will last a lifetime, while their goal is typically to cover up the damage, hoping it will last a couple years at most. Do they make quarters for this particular vehicle? If so, wouldn't that be a more efficient way to go?

Just a quick question. How Would you paint the bare metal inside the areas you boxed in? Is it good to apply welding primer before boxed them in? Again just curious
@yorkshirecarrestoration Жыл бұрын
there aren't any areas boxed in yet as the sills we have to repair the inside and bottom from underneath the car yet and the inner arch is accessible from inside the boot an inside the cab, weld through primer or any primers aren't that good as they still flash off where the weld is applied and all other primers are flammable so no good to use when welding, in my 30 years doing this its better to finish the job then seam seal and primer where you can after the job , then drill holes and apply cavity wax where you cant prime, also make sure there are drain holes where needed :0

The cars like that with a lot of rust why didn't you dip it to take care to make sure all that is good metal just curious
@yorkshirecarrestoration Жыл бұрын
Because dipping it costs a lot more money including completely stripping, removing engine, steering, drive train, lights, wiring loom then there is the dip, then there is fully reassembling it and fully priming and painting it etc. It's not in the customers budget. :)

Bench mount shear arrived monday - dead useful bit of kit, should have bought one years ago - so thanks for that tip, Steve. Nice job on the lower screen surround - those can be "Fun". I tend to just make them in 2 pieces & weld them - purely for speed/ease - but making a 1 piece repair is better. Different ways to skin a cat but the cats still skinned. :-)
@jamesward5721 Жыл бұрын
Had to weld the entire center back into a fords roof today btw - sunroof section underneath was borked, as was the underside of the roof itself - hence the outer roof got cut off. Sweet moG.... must have been 3 meters of weld or close. Because there's no way of re-tensioning the panel, it flopped about like a sail after - had to form braces for the underside to get the shape/ridgidity back & spot weld those in. It goes on the list of "Hardest repairs I've run across" - wouldn't be in a rush to do another. Nowhere else would touch it - and I know why.
