How was the feel of the z4 rack as a daily driver? Is it comfortable at low speeds for parking, etc. It is to my knowledge that it is not powered, as it was meant to have electric column steering assist.

Me too. I dont like the widebody fenders it has. Also since its so expensive, not that fast and basically a garage queen. You won't feel guilty about modifying a 3 series

No, you're not. The fenders on the M3 looks out of place. Always thought that. The best looking E30 by far, is one with the Mtech II kit and rolled fenders.

A friend of mine a had a 1988 325is and I drove it on a 1000 mile trip. It had eibach springs and swaybars. I wanted to keep going when I got home. It drove so awesome and those seats are the best I swear i would trade my S2000 for a mint one. They are so hard to find now.

I've loved my 1984 E30 sedan since the day I bought it. It was a 318i but I bought an M20 2.5 straight six and swapped it in when the 1.8 clocked out. Otherwise I have kept it completely stock and clean with original paint, wheels, interior and bumpers. It is my favourite car that I own and hope to pass it on to my kids some day !

I don't know if any other brands do this, but BMW's use a fair bit of rubber in their shifters from the factory. Where say, a japanese car will have a shifter that bolts straight into the gearbox, the linkage on lots of manual BMW's have a rubber core, sitting between two metal sleeves. This gives the stick a little 'wiggle'. Easily fixable with aftermarket parts though, and it's better when you use shorter OEM shifters as well :)

I had an '86 325 es in the 90s. A white 5 speed manual that looks almost like the car in the video. Watching this video just brings back so many good memories. I loved that car. It had about 240k miles on it and still ran smoothly when it got caught in a flood and met its untimely death. I don't think I'll ever own another car as cool as that one.

Eh the exterior work was eh.The interior looks good though. I didnt really try looking for anything, but at 4:23 you can see a huge dent/rust spot by the bottom rocker.

Z4 rack is for direct steering. I modded mine with an e36 rack. Not as direct as the Z4 but a lot better than original non servo rack.

I had an 87 325 5speed as my first car. Previously owned by an old lady, interior was basically brand new. The exterior was also in great condition, garage kept all its life. surprisingly the exterior was in great condition since it was an nj car all its life..

I'm currently putting a Z4 rack in my e30. It is much cheaper than a normal e30 rack because the Z4 rack is manual without hydraulic assist.

Sawyer Dell'Aquila Wrong, e39 has a different hub bore than the e34 which is more likely. even then unless he changed the hub it's a 4x100. yes the e39 has a 5x120 bolt pattern but the hub bore is different.

The going up and down on a cold idle (breathing) is fixable with proper tuning of the MAF sensor - I had that issue with mine for a while until I figured out that the engine is getting too much air on cold idle which in return tricks the ECU into thinking that you're throttling it which in return bumps up and down. just FYI for any E30 owner experiencing that issue.

I came across a 1990 325 convertible about 8 years ago for 400 bucks. It was dirty as hell and the front of the hood, front fenders and rockers had some rust holes. It looked bad. I paid my buddy a 100 bucks to patch it and paint it. The car was all black, top, interior and paint. So we ended up using black tremclad spray can. Turned out amazing lol. And it was fast. Favorite car. Felt like a go kart with power. It would rip donuts on pavement no problem. It looked like a 5000 dollar car. Word. Don't under estimate these cars. They are the shit

Nice review! The Z4 steering rack is better than the stock one anyhow. These cars are just a lot of fun. I'm restoring a 1991 right now - shot primer on it over NewYears. Made a timelapse too. I can't wait to get it back on the road!

5:20 The 4th Gear from all E30 use a 1:1 (direct gear) crank to transmission ratio (that's why E30 325 are very quick from 140 to 180)..... E30 M3 and newer BMW's use the 5th gear as direct gear

Very clean car and great review! Can I make one suggestion? If you got a Gopro or similar and stuck it to the driver or read window to show the gauges and you driving? I think mixing in that angle into the editing would make it that much better.

I've had bmw's from '86-03 and never understood why everyone prefers the e30 over any other 3 series. In my opinion the e46 and e85/e86 are the best sport bmw's you can ever get

I want to clarify something, the original BBS 15" E30 are the ones to have to keep the car clean. I think you're talking about BBS RS which do cost $3000. But not the standard 15" E30 ones. The standard ones are cheap. Regarding the 17" BBS RC you have now, they do look amazing but they don't keep the car clean. Take a look on the front ones which go outside the fender area. That's not clean.
