I'm obsessed. I WILL take this off your hands someday. Unfortunately, I am a very broke 21-year-old but I'm the proud owner of an '03 Japan Red 330i and an '03 Titanium Silver 4.6is X5. I absolutely love this era of BMW and love working on these cars. I want to open up a shop like yours someday also and help other car enthusiasts maintain their pride and joys. Bought an E31 off of EBay. The guy selling it was a high end real estate agent out of Naples FL so I was able to watch all his videos and read his customer's reviews to help establish character. The Carfax report matched his account of the history of the car so I felt comfortable. Upon its arrival I had to replace the alternator, belt tensioner and both batteries but since he stated up front that it had spent most of the last several years sitting on a trickle charger I thought that was reasonable. I love that car so much that now I'm looking for an E38 to be the other bookend. I want an IL though. Never fancied myself a BMW fan before. My, how things change . . .

Awesome! E31 is a classic. Sounds like you snagged a good one. Always great to be able to have documented history on a car before purchase. I also feel car enthusiasts have a certain energy you pick up on when you talk to them. You just kinda "know," if that makes sense. The E38 is a great platform to complete your duo. I find myself liking different brands and style cars as I get older. Stuff I'd never thought I'd be into. I think it stems from the knowledge grown, physical location, and emotions, in your life at the time.

He's so right that while this is a very massive sedan, it is set up with such capable driving dynamics that it feels like a much smaller car in so many ways. You can really drive these cars hard - plenty of power, gobs of braking - it just goes where you point it. Always feel that this body style has such clean and integrated lines, mufflers tucked up under the rear helps too. Can be an ultimate sleeper with Dinan or other mods to crank up the power!

krezo a manual one, that’s a great find! Unfortunately in North America it isn’t so common to find a 7 series in manual, I have a 5 speed automatic. As for videos, not yet. It’s completely stock but I plan to do work on it, so videos may come. I share the same engine, you will grow attached to this car.

I buy e38 730d 99' facelift shadowline as my first car in 2016... still driving, only in spring - summer and early autumn, lov'it e38... best series... on future wish 740d v8 diesel.. 01' as my friday car. There is no higher output motor for the MSport. All 740i and 740il models have the exact same motor unless you're talking about different model years, because there were 3 different 740i engines available, the 4.0, the normal 4.4, and 4.4 with VANOS.

Shark Racing I meant the car has the M62B44”TU”as opposed to the earlier models. Since it’s a later version it would have the “technical update” engine. Looking back at the video it does seem like I mean the MSport has its own individual engine, but its does not. Thanks for watching the video I appreciate it.

very nice and sleek, the ext.mods are astonishing and you present it so smoothly, no bla bla and stuttering=) recently ive read so much about them, I really want the v8 because of repair costs because I dont know nothing about fixing a car. many agree that you`ll save a lot if you do most things yourself. Im afraid that if I buy one and it starts draining my wallet I`ll be so sad and dissapointed but I really want that feeling which every e38 owner keeps talking about. What a dilemma=/

Go for it man! A lot of stuff you can service yourself. But you are right, if taken to a shop the e38 would be more expensive to maintain than your normal economy car. But hey you get what you pay for. If you enjoy the ride and feel of a BMW it comes with a price I guess. Much like any luxury item in this life.

That's a killer price! You'll be way more boss than all your friends in a 7-series. OEM plus mods are great on the E38. The car is so well designed from the factory you don't want to take away from that. Good luck. Hope to see a review of your car soon.

Nice! That classic look is on point. Not having the front plate on makes the face look clean as it should, but how's it possible to roll in NY with only the back plate... Where can I find the Alpina lip? Did you replace resonator with Magnaflow X Pipe and kept muffles on...

Twilly Twilly hey man thank for the kind words. Def not legal to drive without the front plate in NY. I use a plate holder called a Sto N Sho. I can clip my plate on and off as I please. I had to purchase a new “euro” bumper trim piece from the dealer as well, as the US spec front trim piece comes with a plate holder integrated in it. I replaced the resonator with a “resonated Xpipe” from Magnaflow and deleted the rear mufflers.

In this video I had a magnaflow TruX Muffler in the center with both rear muffler deleted. It had a decent drone. I recently switched to traditional x pipe with 2 vibrant mufflers in the rear. Still some drone. But not as bad. Thanks for watching

Dead give away's of a true M Sport...... Short wheel base, Shadowline trim, sport seats, M Steering wheel. Hopefully it has the M Parallel wheels still. My review also explains some other not so obvious mechanical differences. Good luck!

splish splash not too bad. I also drive it more as a leisure car so I haven’t encountered too many issues. Earlier model e38s won’t have Vanos. I guess you can say they require even less maintenance. It’s all about preventative maintenance and how you treat and drive your car. A lot of European cars get a bad rap for maintenance but I think it’s more the owners than the car a lot of the time. The M62B44 and it’s variants are stout engines. Just stay on top of them, follow BMW service intervals and you’ll be ok.

Audio Andy hey! All 7series from 96-01 are considered e38s. That’s the designated chassis code from BMW for that model. The ones ending in “i” represent the normal wheel base. The “il” is the longer wheel base. The “il” is about 6 inches longer than the “i”. Good luck with your purchase!
