I experienced the same AC cool/hot issue with my 2003 525i. Fuse is good, AC comes on, but this fan does not spin. Thanks for the helpful video.

This is a very nicely done video. Thanks for taking the trouble to make it. I was doing some other work on my 528i and noticed the aux fan was physically broken. The fan blades are all broken off and lying in the space in front of the aux radiator. Nothing else is damaged or disturbed in the area and the remaining fan shaft moves freely when turned by hand. I can't imagine what could have caused this. Maybe the fan just disintegrated due to a manufacturing flaw. Anyway, your vid shows the way to fix it. It looks easy enough and I thank you again.

Thanks. The job is not hard at all. Just takes time to take everything apart and put it back together, etc. Make sure you buy a quality replacement part so you dont have to do the job twice or deal with a loud fan. Good luck!

Fortunately it was not the clutch fan that disintegrated that can tear up the hoses and damage the metal of the hood First time I have ever heard of a aux fan failing catastrophically and I have had m54 since 2003

Perfect video! I have a BMW E39 520i 1997. When I turn on the air conditioning and the fan blade turns on immediately. I was with a master who did this by turning on the air conditioner, not at a later stage. Is this normal or should it be turned on only when it gets too hot? Otherwise, on hot days you overheat the car. And today it happened to overheat on a frosty day, but at the moment there is no antifreeze and the system is not deaerated, which will be the next goal.

Good video and good work. I didn’t need to remove any lower corner pieces on my 528 to get the bumper off. You might as well just remove the headlights, they’re easily unclipped and you can replace the adjusters and polish them while they’re off.
@NoGaragE304 жыл бұрын
Thanks, the headlights can use a polish for sure.

I just want to know if the aux fan is supposed to go when the engine is on an will it still work if the ac does not work
@NoGaragE304 жыл бұрын
Aux fan should turn on either with the AC or when engine temp reaches a certain level to help the mechanical fan, like when the car is not moving during a hot day.

@@NoGaragE30 also with my 2001 bmw 530i i can also operate aux fan from the computer but its not working no more so i was thinking my aux fan must be broken but ive been driving for a few days no problems thanks bruh
@NoGaragE304 жыл бұрын
Depending on the conditions where you drive, the engine may not need the additional help from the aux fan. If you live in a cold place or dont drive in heavy traffic for example. There is a chance the AC could need it though and not having it could put addition stress on the compressor.

@@NoGaragE30 ah ok i kind of messed with the AC an now its not working an then i found the aux fan wasnt working either i think it mite be the wiring i dont know its the not the fuses i dont think im ttyna diy fix it

On some vehicles the six fan will mot come on if the ac compressor isn’t engaged. This can happen when you are low on refrigerant. Simplest way to start is apply 12v directly to the fan and see if it spins.

does anyone know the name of sensor/whatever it's called that controls the speed of the fan? Not the temp sensor but what changes the speed of the Aux fan? It's for the 525i

Fan clutch better for cooling radiator. Front fan electric for a/c

Nice video. I have also problem with fan. It does not turn on when AC is on. It turns on only when temp goes up and mechanic fan cant cool down. But then it works permanently till baterry is dead. :D
@NoGaragE304 жыл бұрын
Wow. If you have the variable speed fan like mine it is controlled by the ECM, with input from several sensors like Radiator outlet temp, A/C pressure, speed, etc. My understandig is the fan receives the signal from the ECM and uses its own power output stage (part of the fan motor) to turn the fan on/off and increase/decrease speed. I would check for codes if you have BMW scanner. Replacing parts until you find the problem is never fun. There are good troubleshooting threads on this topic online.

I replaced my but didn’t work fuse was good . And I have 12v at plug. I had also replace the coolant temp switch. And still noting.

If you have a good fan and 12v at the connector the issue would have to be with the sensors/signals that needed to start the fan. Depending on the fan type you have different things to look at. An early model 4-wire fan is a bit simpler it is usually a temp sensor (which you have replaced) or the fan relay (think this is close to the fuse under glove box). The late model 3-wire fan (like mine) is more complex as it requires signals from the ECM to operate. The easiest test would be to run the A/C on high as this should send a signal quickly. Otherwise you would need a scanner or computer than can run aux fan tests to simulate the signals etc. While working on mine I did see some people online reporting the issue as bad wires to the fan connector, with physically bad wires that would read 12v but not be able to carry the current needed to power the fan, something to keep in mind. There are good troubleshooting threads on this topic online.
