BMW E39 M5 DIY How To Guide - Carbon Fibre Bonnet with E46 M3 Gas Struts

Welcome along to another BMW E39 M5 DIY how to guide.
Today we are looking at fitting bonnet struts from an E46 M3.
The reason we are fitting them is the E39 bonnet struts are too powerful for the lightweight carbon fibre bonnet that I have installed. If I used them, then when closing the bonnet there would be a very real risk of causing damage to the bonnet.
Using the E46 M3 struts removes this risk as they are lower pressure rated due to the lightweight aluminum bonnet on the M3.
The E46 M3 struts are around 1 inch shorter than the E39 items, and therefore we need to modify the lower mounting point on the inner wing to allow the struts to work at their full capacity and allow the bonnet to raise to the correct fully open position.

Can you please give a partnumber for those struts? I ordered some generic E46 struts from ebay, but they didn't fit.

They are from an E46 M3.
