BMW E39 M5 LED Dipped Beam Headlights DIY Guide

Welcome to another BMW E39 M5 DIY How-To video guide.
Today we are following on from a previous video where we fitted the LED headlights. This time, we will be fitting LED dipped beams instead of the Xenon units that are already there.
You will need a set of D2S LED units for this conversion and it shouldn't take you more than 30 minutes in total.
If you are fitting the LED dipped beam units to Halogen headlights, then you will need H7 LED units.

No adaptors needed, the plugs on the OEM wiring go direct on to the new LED bulb plugs.

Hello there. Im also in middle of retrofitting led d2s bulb into my headlight. Current headlight xenon hid. I want to ask do you modify or cutting the cover rubber boot? Because i couldnt fit it without cutting

how did u remove the collar? and how were u able to install set screw for collar (if it had one) once collar was placed into headlight housing? we need details..

Does led unit needs ballast? Can I have photo of back side of headlight after the installation?

No ballasts required - LED units are simply plug/play.

he uses ds2 led units because he has xenon lights and I assume the fitting is different but if you have halogens and you want to convert to leds then you only need h7 led units.

Hi. Will this light bulb swap yield the check headlights notification in the instfument cluster?

Only if you use non-canbus compliment bulbs. The message can be coded out using Navcoder or PASoft.

@Sergei no problem. You’ll have to check the specs of the bulbs you want to use to see if they are canbus compliant, too many variants on the market to give an answer for.

you can get them of ebay for about £20 just search h7 led unit. or ds2 led unit if you are converting from xenons in an e39.
