This is my 1998 BMW E39 520i single vanos.
Found out while trying to reinstall my cylinder head back on that the threads are stripped. One of the options is Time Sert kit which I'm using in this video.
Figured it's worth a shot. If that doesn't work I'll replace the whole engine.

Great job. I have seen tests where Timeserts prove to be stronger than original thread, so all you have to worry about is how square they are. I wonder, if you did get one that was slightly out, could you drill out the head very slightly?

Thanks! Yes, they are stronger in fresh aluminium...From what I've seen online, people get mixed results with these... Sometimes aluminium is just to brittle from overheating that they pull out... Right away or over time. And sometimes it just works.

Honestly should’ve just installed head studs by arp not oe style head bolts. Studs are much easier on the block. Other than that you seem to be doing a great job. Keep it up.

I did my Head gasket on the M52 lately too, someone already did all the holes with time certs before me.. I changed the head as well with a new one because a crack on the exhaust valve resulting in coolant loose. By re torque the new head all bolts went strong on the last 90 degrees turn only the second last between cylinder 5 and 6 felt not that tight like the others on the last turn. The first weeks the coolant stayed steady on the coolant reservoir mark, not few months later it dropped around 3 cm below mark.. Do you think there is a chance that the time cert on that bolt gave up ? Thanks

From what I've read online, if overheat is severe enough even time setrs pull out, something about material around the threads being damaged from the heat.
