She’s fine! Those numbers are great considering the miles and the boosted miles. So happy to hear it’s getting Rod bearings. Light at the end

The old school trick - if a cylinder is down on compression, add a few squirts of oil. If compression psi come up then it’s rings/bore, if it stays low then it’s valves.

Awesome to see Woodriguez in the Zero to 60 garage!! That S62 rips, especially for a high mileage example but it seemed to be cranking pretty slow during the testing, which wouldn't help matters any. Perhaps you guys need an US pressure tester, I hear they read a bit higher than the Australian ones!! 😂😂😂

Very impressed how this engine is holding up considering how it has a billion kilometres on it. Good luck with the rod bearings! Looking forward to seeing what sort of condition the old ones are in.

Good job! You did everything right for this motor when doing a compression test that's where most ppl fuck up as a rule of thumb 175-210 psi is factory spec for these motors, she's a bit tired but definitely still driveable and useable and won't notice any loss of power. Wouldn't consider a rebuild untill it starts burning oil.

That's a bit of a relief. Whilst your doing the bearings. It might not be too much extra work to do the rings? Could be a good opportunity to gain some of those lost horses.

Did E39 front rotors and wheel bearings the other day. On site, hand tools only. Can be done by just releasing pinchbolt in steer knuckle. see vid for tips

There seems to be a lot of variation in the testing with using a second battery and the battery voltage rising after sitting on the charger. I don't think I would be concerned with these results. Maybe hooking a running car to the M5 would be more consistent because an alternator can pump out a lot more current than that charger.
@fabini144 жыл бұрын
You can use techical information from bmw to see what compression is good, bmw says that shoud be between 12 to 14bar, what is like 175psi to 204psi, i would say that this engine is good enough, i would only replace bearings. Continue with good content, I don't miss a video, I watch your videos from Portugal.

Can you not connect a running car to it to keep the cranking current high as you could hear which we’re going to be good just from the first crank

I personally wouldn't worry about it as an urgent matter, it's tired, not... injured? but something to keep in the back of your mind, that one day when you can be bothered it's *worth* a basic rebuild. you wouldn't be throwing money at a nonexistant issue. but wait you guys are in QLD? i thought you were in sydney for some reason. are you up at the sunny coast?

Bmw states the range as min 174psi and max 203psi. Perfect value is 12.6 bar or 183psi. Maximum differences between max and min reading should be less than 0.5 bar or 8psi. You must have all of the spark plugs removed. Take off all of the belts, water pump, supercharger otherwise you are wasting your time. The numbers are meaningless.
