As an e46 m3 vert owner, so worth buying it. It’s my first car and I feel very content about this car. This car is just timeless

how's it holding up? i'm really thinking about getting one as my first car but whenever i hear someone talk about maintenance costs i get nervous. i'm willing to learn how to repair all of it and, i figure it's better i learn now before i get a full time job. i've found a few with under 100k miles in my price range and i needa know if i should do it
@Jerem3iah3 жыл бұрын
@@l3gacy well, I haven’t had anything too crazy broken. I had some guys do a valve adjustment for me. The only thing that has broken is the salmon relay and that is only $20. She only has 50k miles and the previous owner kept the car in good shape. I need to get the rod bearings done and the subframe can wait a little while. Cars don’t rust here where i live and my m3 doesn’t have any rust. Besides those two major maintenance issues, these cars aren’t too hard to work on. When I bought mine, it was around 12k. You can find these m3’s for cheaper but when you get to the 100k range, they come around 7k where I am. As long as you can get connections or if you don’t beat these cars up so much, they can last for a loooooonnnggg time. You also just need to wait a few minutes for the oil to warm up and engine too because of rod bearings. That will make the rod bearings last a longer time.

I have had three e36's over the past 12 years (currently have a 328i) and just got a e46 330i sedan (automatic, but it was a free car) last week. I still hold e36's highly, but I have really enjoyed the e46 over the past week. The interior holds up much better than e36, and I love all the little comforts like heated seats and better stereo and such. And the car drives fantastic, definitely feels like a road trip worthy vehicle after a few prevenative maintenance items. The 330 definitely feels super close power wise to my old 95 M3. I think this is a great car for the money, I just hope they stay cheap long enough for me to save a few.

my favorite thing about the car is the amount of visibility it has, along with the space within to aid with those who are easily claustrophobic (unless you're over 6ft) and how small the car is overall making it very noticeably easier to drive than the e92. though e92 will be my next car because the car was made more solid, interior lasts much longer and the engines (325, 330) are more solid with less annoying maintenance

did you say, "not buy oem parts?" I think you meant, not buy OM parts. OEM (original equipment manufacturer) is the way to go. I love my e46. just smashed it up on a wall two nights ago though. nooooot happy. bought it back in 2016 in tokyo for 1120,000 yen, 1100 bucks. a 2000 320 with, get this, 22k miles on it. Now it has 53k on it. just installed a new throttle body after getting the eml light and limp mode. It now needs a new EGS. Gear light came on after a long drive last monday, but it went off when i restarted the car. It also needs a new asc+t (abs) module. the pump failed. very common e46 problem. I dont recommend getting a used module. you should get your module rebuilt instead. I recommend rebuilding the EGS too.
@jspeedracing2 жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear that man. You can go OEM if you want. I was mainly talking about for people trying to get into one as cheap as possible. We have run ebay parts for years and overall, they are great. Ill look into that EGS. Thanks brother

True, but we have ran ebay stuff for years now on our budget builds and we've never had a failure. Just don't get maxpeeding rods coilovers lol.
@hakukuze79472 жыл бұрын
@@jspeedracing Yes, but you don't want some poor cooling system parts and such and if you want it to last, I would research who are the good manufacturers. Ebay is great, but just be aware where stuff is made, how good they are in long term and research the vendor. You don't want to have long term issues that peer their ugly head and you find out later you should have spent a little more money before to save tons later.
