Nice one. The old dsp unit must have digital crossovers to be that small and efficient. Wrong polarity just means the frequencies cancel each other out - this is very apparent in the lower frequency range. Tweeters can be heard as well but maybe not in this application.

Hi! This is quite a great video, however, I am unsure on how to proceed with my car, which I haven't seen in the videos. I have an E53 with the 'old-school radio display' and what it seems to be the DSP (has 3 connectors on top), however, there is nothing on top of it (I think it is the Bluetooth system) which leaves a huge gap on top of the DSP, am trying to figure out if I should replace my car stereo from factory, since the stereo glitches a lot (turns off every 20-30 minutes and the screen has several dead pixels) yet the sound works just fine. I am unsure if i need the 5-6 meter harness and also I am not sure if the lack of the Bluetooth system would affect an Android screen/audio, I have very poor knowledge on the topic and I would optimally acquire the Android unit on a tight budget, any suggestions?

I miss the stereo I installed in my first car back in 1998. I had an Acura Legend with 2 12inch pioneer subs, pioneer 6x9 door and rear deck speakers and a solid pioneer head unit/cd player. I believe it had a 1200watt amp by pioneer as well. All those components worked so well together.
@ZeroTo60Tube3 жыл бұрын
Hell yeah man!! I think it was 2001 i did my first install. Started with a miss match of what ever was on sale. But the first head unit i bought was a pioneer. It was 50watt x 4 with the "mosfet" amp in the head unit. I was so excited to install it back in the day but it was such a basic unit.

Ok I am about to tackle this project to replace my fault factory radio system with an aftermarket andriod unit. Unfortunately my E38 has a DSP system with the exact black amplifier, I have a few questions: How many crossover unit do you require to hook up all the wirings from the DSP unit? What kind of amplifier are you using it? I note that you have an alpine amplifer, any 4 channel amplifier would do? I don't think my E38 is equipped with subwoofers as I checked the rear parcel shelf, didn't see any speakers attaching underneath. Does it make my job easier? Thanks

just finished watching it and well, it’s alot more compared to my old W124 Mercedes 😀 looks about a day or a day and a half of work, right? my X has only the midbasses in the rear but I do have the “DSP” door panels with two speaker slots per rear door. should I get ready to wrestle with the rear door wiring in case its not set universally or just replace the rear door speakers fo coaxials and set it? sound for rear passengers does sound a bit muffled
@ZeroTo60Tube3 жыл бұрын
I would allow a day if its your first time. With the door wiring, there really is no way of telling if you will have the wiring for the rear tweeters, however in the rear using a set of coax should be fine for your sound stage. A lot of high end installers will run lesser quality speaker in the back as you done really want to hear them from the front. Good luck with it and take your time. Its really not as bad as it looks.

I bought an aftermarket android 10" and the installer installed it without even having to take of anything from the rear nor fiddle anything in the rear and it works well. The only issue is the FM signal intermittence. I came here thinking that you might recommend how to rectify the signal intermittence which could be adding a signal booster.

Hi Guys, i don't suppose you could do a followup on the Sound Quality of the head unit at all? Especially with the low output of the RCA's - would it be better running hi-level to the amp's ASSUMING that the distortion is lower than the RCA's. Cheers.
@ZeroTo60Tube3 жыл бұрын
Hi Owen, I will definitely be doing a full review of the unit. Unfortunately with the xmas break and well normal BMW madness with the cars we play with on the channel, i haven't had quite enough time with the unit to give a full opinion on it. However the audio with the low output RCA's are not a problem. As i went through this with my last e53. I know the poor subs will be the first issue with the audio quality. Then then the other speakers. I found in my last car with higher gains there was an issue with alternator wine. I can just about hear it on most E53s, even with stock amps. However it can be easily fixed with a specific capacitor. We will keep playing with and improving this stereo over the coming months. I dont really want to spend as much as i did last time, so we will see how we go with more of the budget ideas on improving the stereo.

@ZeroTo60Tube3 жыл бұрын
Some units will work. But you need one that will control the factory DSP. The bmw models with factory DSP rely on the DSP to do all of the sound processing. So basically you need to make sure you can control the factory DSP. As standard the DSP is controlled with the ibus. Any android paired with the ibus dongle & app will work, as the ibus dongle sends the appropriate signals over ibus to activate the DSP.

Thank you very much

hahah you're not wrong. I did look at aftermarket DSP's and amps with DSPs built in, they are just a bit too expensive for my liking, which is why i ended up with so much mess here using the cheaper seperate components. I have a android in my e92 and i love it. The idrive integration now is amazing. You shouldnt have any issues and sound quality is no different to using the aux input. With some eq adjustments you get them sounding mint.
