BMW E60 530D M57N alternator replacent guide

Thanx guys ive just finished the job, two of us took 3 hours. My car is a Dec 2003 E60 530D. I had to remove the whole section of intercooler pipe and the radiator fan housing. Simple enough but added time. Only by doing this was i able to get the old alternator out and new one back in, and get access to bolts to remove them. I paid 130 euro for the new alt and no need to make any alterations. Thanx again !

Mine is a 04, but the acess was different (probably because of extras). I took the steering pump out to the side, same with water reservoir and it took me and my buddy 1h30. Pretty straight forward and in my opinion easier. Great video tho.

what brand alternator did u buy?

The nut you had cut down can be knocked out. It is not stuck :) Saw it mentioned in another video

Do you know how easy it would be to replace the heater cable which goes between the alternator and the glow plug controller?

I never did this, but replacing of alternator was not a hard task so I can imagine it should not be to complicated

Andy N yeah I was just wondering how much access I’d have to get the lead from the alternator to the plug controller it seems pretty tight

Hi there, my car had few problems as result of faulty alternator, but with revs I was loosing them sometimes in idle when I was stopping car before the traffic lights

Did you replace with oem alternator or another brand? Ridex is very cheap for me but I don't know that quality

Hi, the first time when I did it I have used refurbished alternator. I never tried other than valeo, sorry

@@hman05 the alternator last for about 5 years, after this time O dodnt had any problems but as I refurbished another one I have swapped them and the first one is my spare one

what is the approximate cost to replace alternator in an E60

My friend has given it to the local mechanic and she payed close to £500 including refurb ternator. This is one of main reasons why I have my channel, so peoole can do it and save some money, it is not very complicated job.

your mpg is 40.9mpg on my 2006 530d i get 26-30mpg....
