Love the jumper trick to maintain computer continuity. The vent tube is important. On another video a subscriber to that channel wrote in that a BMW Tech pulled him on the side and told him not to waste time and money on the "register" as long as he's swapping in an exact spec new battery for the old battery, the charging parameters will be the same. If the specs are different i.e. higher or lower CCA's, different aH ratings then by all means register the battery.

This video made it super easy man 5 stars ! Very simple . Tip - use t shirts on wrapped around positive terminal if your doing this yourself so it doesn’t touch any metal parts when it’s dangling ✔️✔️

You also missed attaching the battery vent tube, this takes any gases or liquids away from the battery compartment and exits at the bottom of the car behind the rear wheel on the right hand side. If you don’t do this and there is any battery discharge it will quickly corrode and potentially eat a hole in the battery compartment. Schoolboy error.

Great video, proper rush job and loved the use of the cordless drill to tighten the battery clamps to an unknown setting - where can I get one - must have saved 5 seconds in tightening those clamps to either be loose in 6 months time, or fracture in 12v months time

BMW have adaptive charging and power management systems. Part of this management is monitoring the battery’s capacity and its charge and discharge profiles. When a battery is changed, the power management system needs to be run through a diagnostic cycle in order to properly recognize (register) the different battery and the different capacity, charge and discharge profiles. If the new battery is not “registered” the vehicle will run and the battery will charge. However, in the long run, the life of the battery will likely be compromised due to improper charging parameters.

HEY PEOPLE! Don’t listen to this BS. Look, I get it. Having to register a new battery just screams “over-engineered nonsense”, but it has to be done. You see, a BMW’s alternator is adaptive. When a battery is newer and can therefore hold a charge better and longer, it runs the alternator less often. The main reason for this is a substantial increase in fuel economy. When a battery ages, it loses its ability to hold a charge, therefore the alternator has to work harder and more often. When you just replace the battery without registering it with the car’s ECUs, the alternator never knows that “hey, this is a new battery! I don’t have to work so hard!” And it will continue to run constantly. until eventually the battery gives out, or more likely the alternator gives out. Now you may think, Ahh, it’ll take it a long time to wear out, right? No. Dead battery within 2 years and a dead alternator in 1.5 years. For an alternator, the part alone is over $1,200 and that’s not including labor costs which for a bmw will be ASTRONOMICAL. Be smart. Register your damn battery. You can buy even an OBD cable & BMW coding software online and do it yourself, but it’s not easy to operate. Most of it is in German. Any good Indy shop can register it for you. Spend the extra money on it. This is a BMW, not a Daewoo. You Shouldn’t have bought it if you couldn’t handle the responsibility. Besides, you’ll be spending that money and more when you have to buy an alternator and extra gas as a result of poor mpgs.

Ok if I disconnect the battery for 30 min to do some work like change the alternator and then reconnect that same battery to the car will I need to recode or reprogram the battery even though it's the same battery that was in there before or that only applies to new batteries

Today i've pulled out the battery in my E60 2009 to charge it a bit since i'm not driving her too often and low temperatures outside decreased capacity of my battery. I don't have a garage to charge it in-car, so i've read a lot of threads about what could happen in that case. Most of the answers were "nothing is going to happen and all you need to do after is just adjust the clock" but some of users have had some problems with the iDrive system and sensors. I'm going to put the battery back on its place tomorrow so i'll give you feedback how was it my case. Cheers!

Hi, I've installed battery again, all good. At the beginning i experienced issues but it wasn't related with the battery installation. It's just because car wasn't run for a long time. Actually i didn't expect it won't start from the first touch but after all, nothing happened. Right after installation: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nKbXYoGkZs6kd9E After 15km, turn off and on again: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fWe6e2h3eLaNirM

Positive is a party animal, it wants to be at the party first, and leave the party last. Negative is a Negative Nancy, a party pooper, Negative Nancy drags her feet to party, gets there last, and is first to leave the party. Can you find the mistake? Good job KAM'ing, btw.
