Very comprehensive video. I don’t think I can do this myself, likely getting an Indy to do it. Got some 10 fuel injectors, maybe will do this in next year or so. Upgrade the gears and mosfets. What else would you suggest to do while in there? Thermostat?
@MTechGuy
@MTechGuy 2 жыл бұрын
Definitely do the injectors and thermostat while in there. Consider evap valves and idle actuators while the plenums are out of the way, but it’s likely they’re OK. Good opportunity to hit a few preventative maintenance items at once to make the most of the labour involved which is gaining access, and reassembly

Great video. I had a fault code on the dash, engine went into limp mode etc I scanned the code and it was for the throttle actuator on bank 1 I’ve now taken both actuators out and replaced the plastic gears inside. The old gears were definitely worn down and needed replacing but unfortunately it didn’t fix the issue. The circuit board was damaged on the bank 1 actuator. I’ve now replaced both actuators and lubricated the linkages that connect the actuators to the butterfly valves so it moves nice and freely.

Another great video! Is there a way to check after you install the new TAs that everything works correctly before putting everything back together and having to go back and take everything apart? Everyone is telling me it's the TAs. I got these codes 27AA, 2B22, 2B57,2B5C,2796. I appreciate any help!
@MTechGuy
@MTechGuy 4 ай бұрын
Just double check everything before you put the plenum back on (throttle actuator electrical connector, actuation rod etc) That’s a few codes you have there, you could swap the throttle actuators over to see if the code follows from one bank to the other for certainty, but by the time you’ve gone to all that trouble you might as well rebuild them while they’re out anyhow

@@MTechGuy I dropped the nut that holds down the plastic part down near the 2 hose clamps in the back of the plenum. I can't find it. How bad is this? Will my engine be alright?
@mista5796

Hi M tech guy. Does the temperature sensor under the intake plenum measure the temperature of the engine coolant? I’m getting an error code for coolant temperature sensor. I’ve replaced the sensor next to the radiator- just wondering what the temperature sensor next to the throttle actuator is measuring. I’m wondering if that might be responsible for giving the error code
@MTechGuy
@MTechGuy 11 ай бұрын
It measures coolant temperature, and normally is the one to fail. It’s worth doing the thermostat at the same time if it’s not already been replaced
@mista5796
@mista5796 10 ай бұрын
Hi, just to say I checked it out and it was a broken wire to the coolant temperature sensor on the engine block. All fixed now Also, the plastic gears on the throttle actuators obviously get worn over time… but what is the reason for the actuators ‘failing’? Why do they throw the engine code 2b15/2b16 and cause the car to go into limp mode?

when removing the Plemum do the hose clamps need to be lined back up perferctly when re isntalled so they do not interfere with throttle bodies action ?
@MTechGuy
@MTechGuy Жыл бұрын
The rubber boots have a back stop on them to prevent the hose clamps from spinning, so they stay in one position when loosening & tightening. Check out this video I previously made on plenum removal, it explains it- kzbin.info/www/bejne/hZyQhYOoft-dftE

If they are stuck, try spraying them with a little silicone spray and let them soak for a bit, then give them a little twist, then try and ease them out carefully

I have a 07 M6 and had a bank 1 throttle actuator failure. I replaced with a used actuator and bank 2 failed on the first start so I ended up rebuilding both original actuators with replacement gears and reinstalled. Not done yet as bank 1 actuator circuit board failed next. I used the replacement circuit board and only then was able to get all the lights cleared and its running very well now. What a learning experience. I wish I found this video before my exercises with both actuators!

@MTechGuy Жыл бұрын
Wow, sounds like it all failed in a short space of time and you’ve had quite the adventure rectifying it. Good to hear you got it all straightened out in the end 👍 Which rebuild kit did you use? Did you scavenge the circuit board off the spare throttle actuator?
@timmccartney7209
@timmccartney7209 Жыл бұрын
I bought two rebuild kits from Odometer Gears. They worked great and not hard to do. I used the extra (used) circuit board from the eBay actuator. All gears in all actuators were worn to a point of failure. BMW seems to purposely use plastic gears which will wear down and grind off gear teeth. Now new issue is reoccurring red transmission cog. Car is momentarily placed in neutral and after a few seconds, the warning light disappears and car operates normally. Trying to find if I need to replace the pump motor or what? I did your trans reset from your video and car shifts 100% easier. Especially from a stop. I hope this May resolved the red cog light.
