I did chuckle when your wrench said Dick on it, childish I know but it was like being at school when concentration was high and spotted it haha. Great video by the way mate

Next time, place a jack under the ball joint to give it some load and stop it spinning as you remove the nut
@seanpaul3050

Put a scissor jack under the ball joint. With the weight of the car on it I’m sure the impact gun will easily spin the nut off. When replacing tie rod ball joints I always grease the exposed threads afterwards and also grease the Allen key hole. Makes removal very easy later on.

I second Sean's recommendation. The weight will effectively hold the threads solid, ensuring that the impact gun can spin said nut off. For me personally, I always use copper antiseize whenever replacing parts. One, because it works so well, and two, because it's such a unique antiseize. Being that it's unique, when I come back later, I know which parts I replaced or serviced, so I can rule out those parts during troubleshooting (i.e. if I'm trying out parts on say, the suspension system, I know what I've replaced previously, so I can focus on those components that don't have copper antiseize on the threads).

Great video! Very precise, hard doing the actual job and capturing it all in a way that makes it easy for us to follow. I have had a vibration in my E61 also, turns out I have 2 out of shape rims (style 135) which I'm actually going to have straightened, hopefully. New bushes urethane going into the thrust rods too, and an alignment. So in a way, great timing with the video. Keep up the good work!

Cheers Bryce. It’s not always easy to get the camera right in there with tight spaces but I make my videos with the viewer in mind. I think “what would I like to see if I was watching this along myself” 👍🏻

If you get a tight bolt you can put a jack under the ball joint and take some of the cars weight which locks the tapers together, allowing the bolt to become tight and you can remove the nut. this works most of the time, also useful for tightening it up again.

I should add it's worth placing a rubber block or some softwood between a jack and a new trackrod end

I have found that if a nut starts turning but then binds, reapplying penetrating oil then "tightening" the nut on the bolt (holding bolt in this case with the T40 torx wrench), reapplying oil, then loosening, the nut will proceed off the bolt.

Hi George, I have a bmw e90 318i, I was wondering if you could help me out. When driving along at say 40 mph and also at 60 mph I can hear quite an annoying high pitched "metallic" noise. At first I thought it was the differential making the noise - I have since done an oil change on the diff but this did not make much difference at all. Would you have any suggestions as to where to check next? Thanks!
