I bought the same exact battery Chris shows in this video about $130 at Walmart. After installing it I was noticing weird electrical issues. For example, I would go to open the trunk lid and it wouldn't open, so I would start the car and then things came back to life. After experiencing this a couple of times, I decided to buy the BMW DIS v57, SSS v32, INPA kit on eBay to do some deeper analysis and I am glad I did. I discovered that the battery registration process is a must and during the process I was asked if the replacement battery was AGM or non-AGM. I chose non-AGM because the EverStart H8 is a non-AGM or lead-acid battery. The next question was about the amp-hours (AH) and there was really no way to adjust so I progressed to the final step and completed the registration. I then spent another 4 hours researching the different types of batteries and decided to go with an AGM after all. The electronics on my '03 745i could accommodate the non-AGM but I decided that it was worth it to spend another $80 ($210 total) and went with the recommended AGM from O'Reilly auto parts. After installing the AGM battery, I went through the battery registration process again and this time chose the AGM type battery. Thanks Chris for all your awesome videos.

Hello, the software I believe is called INPA, you need to download the software, I believe folks on the forums have the software and then you need to buy the special cable on eBay, it takes a certain kind of cable, again check out the BMW forums and those guys have it listed.

I purchased a battery for my 2008 750i and it costed me $240.00 usd. That in itself throw me off. I said all that to say this. If you own a 2002-2008 750i get rid of it, They are cheap to buy but yet parts are still extremely costly. Fuck a BMW! Give me a Chevy and call it good. Great video Chris, AGM batteries last (5-6 years) double the life of normal batteries (2-3 years) & safer because it has no liquid acid that may leak in case of an overcharge or being defective. I recall reading in the manual the battery should be replaced by the same type (AGM) because of the amount of electronics on the car and the charging system. Registering the battery is extremely ((important)) because as you said the charging system needs a reset to adjust the whole system. I replaced my battery with an AGM OEM and it kept giving me a message (recharge battery) and comfort access was disabled! but after I registered the battery all problems gone (takes only 5 minutes INPA software).
@andrewthompsonuk111 жыл бұрын
Old fashioned cars just attempt to charge the battery fully at all times. Lead acid starting batteries are designed to be kept fully charged. These BMWs are designed to use AGM batteries that are semi deep discharge. This allows the power module to discharge the battery at some times to save load on the engine. In theory a normal lead acid battery will be killed by this system. However the real world and the engineers world are often different and a normal lead acid battery will probably last as just as well as in any other car. Chris does lots of miles in his car presumably on freeways where the battery will get the charging it needs. I think in the long run he will save cash just using cheap lead acid bateries. Time will tell...

I am not sure if it worked, read some forums and they state to remove the NEG CABLE for a few hours to allow the system to discharge and drain. Then reattach the NEG CABLE and the system will recalibrate recognizing the new battery.
@bobbymateev63007 жыл бұрын
Registering the battery is not necessary if you make sure the computer does not loose power while you are disconnecting the battery. You can use a memory preserver kit (around $17) that hooks up to the OBDII connector or you can use external power source connected on the front under the hood terminals. Just make sure you do not short the positive when you take out the battery. The whole mystery of the so called "registration process" is programming the onboard computer so it knows what type of battery you installed so it can charge it properly. you can buy software like the Carley app for around $50 if you need to perform the actual registration process. Hope that helps.
@Pgcmoore8 жыл бұрын
there are vent holes on both sides of the battery, there is a plug for the unused one molded into the positive side protective cover you removed, good idea to plug it up if you don't have two vents (hydrogen gas and battery acid could get inside the trunk/cabin), and could be why there is a bit of corrosion below the battery there. Great video though!

Hello Chris i own a 2008 BMW 7 Series my only trouble with it is the rims its 20" rims each time i hit a road bump by accident or any thing i have to replace the tire is there any tips that you could help with. Thanks
@andrewthompsonuk111 жыл бұрын
I did that once hitting a pot hole at about 40mph. Have the wheel carefully checked for out of round by your tire shop. It if is at all out of round then relegate it to the spare even if the tire shop says it is out a bit and you will not notice it. Remember the rear wheels are wider and the spare is the same as the front wheel. You may want to buy a pair of new tires and keep the best one for the spare depending on how worn they were. It is best to have the same brand of tires with the same amount of ware on the same axle. Finally I am not sure what country you live in, here in the UK the roads are no longer good enough for 20 inch ultra low profile wheels. You may want to down grade to the 19 inch or 18 inch wheels. I have 18 inch for winter and 19 for summer.
@DIYsavecash11 жыл бұрын
I've gotten pretty lucky with the roads here in California, I've hit some pot holes before and bammm loud noise, but the tires held there ground, right now I have 21 inch rims, but those tires are extremely expensive because it's a rare size. I keep burning through those back tires quickly. I need to find another tire company for the rear 21's my Hancook's are tread burners.

Ernest Highsmith Hello, the same thing is happening to my 2006, but it's coming down through my passenger side floor panel and getting my passenger floor soaked, I did some research on this recently, but what happens is the rain gutters, not sure if their called that, but they get backed up with dirt or something or something is causing the rain to filter down into the car instead of the ground. I haven't fixed mine yet, but what I do is my condo parking lot out front of my house is very slightly inclined I just park it backed in, (like a valet parker would do) that causes the rain to filter to the ground instead of my floor mats. So until you fix it whatever way you park your car normally just reverse it and see if that helps until you fix it. Try to Google BMW E65 E66 car inside gets wet when it rains. Read everything you can on the BMW forum boards, those guys/gals have been through everything:) If you find a fix before I do, please share:)

+DIYsavecash if you open the sunroof and look from the top, theres two drain holes, one on each side, i blew the lines with compressed air, and the pressure blew back the rubber hose that connects to the male side of that drain hole. So i took off some interior panels and mirrors in the headliner and pulled down the headline and saw the hose disconnected, i then reconnected it after applying pvc primer and glue and it looks to be holding up nice. I then cleaned the dirty headliner with some 99c store magical product that cleaned it up nice. No more water hopefully

@andrewthompsonuk18 жыл бұрын
I think if you decide to go the non AGM route then not registering the battery will be better. The power module will charge an old battery to higher voltages and it will keep the charge levels higher. Two things that non AGM batteries like. So for non AGM registering is bad. If the car does long trips then AGM is not going to be necessary. However if it only does short trips a normal battery will be destroyed by this car.

I was driving on my way to pick my brother in law from work, I then made a U-turn and my car just died...I tried restart it..nothing...my dashboard lights were out. I unplugged the negative terminal from the battery for a reset...I would turn on all the dash lights back on for about 10 seconds then they'll go out again. I had to wake my brother up to tow it home since trying to jump the battery was unsuccessful. Perhaps the battery? Before the car died...for a couple of times my car just wouldn't start...I'll push the start button a couple of times and it would work normally. Any ideas? IVM was replaced about a year ago...battery hasn't. Sorry for the long post, but that's the only cat I have and I must fix it ASAP. (2007 BMW 750Li)...

You forgot to plug the other side of the battery vent - on the negative side. The vent hose goes on the positive side, but there's a little plug you must remove from the OEM battery and plug the negative side. Is it a big deal? Don't know, but there's a reason the plug is there. Just replaced my original battery, date stamp 43-06. Still started my car fine even in below zero temps, but the computer wasn't liking it - was not allow blower motors to spin up and other weirdness. I guess 11+ years is pretty good, although it's had this behavior since I bought it 2 - 3 years ago. Either way - can't complain. FWIW: Bosch model 1300 ODBII scanner does basic battery "reset" and many auto parts stores let you use it for free. If the battery is close to OEM specs should be OK, if you are changing from AGM to Wet - or Ah or CCA is much different, you'll need a different tool to set those.

Anyone know where I can buy battery of E66?
@DIYsavecash9 жыл бұрын
Sam Jerome Hello someone mentioned that you can get the AGM battery at Walmart now, maybe only online for walmart, or oriely's or autozone, group 49 AGM if I remember correctly. hope this helps.

Sam Jerome Autozone and Advanced Auto both sell them. ~$180-200

Maybe but you'd be surprise how ignorant some people can be about their own cars when a simple Google search will tell them almost everything.

I WOULD NOT TAKE THE REGISTRATION PROCESS LIGHTLY. The E65/66 have tons of modules that can be affected (IVM, CAS). Have seen expensive problems related to poor battery/registration choices.

Почему поставили не оригинальный аккумулятор ?
@DIYsavecash11 жыл бұрын
The reason for not putting an original battery is the price, if I went to the dealer to buy a battery it would run around 500-600 hundred dollars US. My battery was only 140.

NO NO! you need 90 AH AGM battery!
