Great simple tip and clear video, often overlooked service to help prevent those running issues, keep the fuel tank away from reserve level to prevent drawing up sediment from bottom of fuel tank and then the easy task of removing the fuel pumps, ( Not). 🤣

Bit by bit things get done! It was interresting to see inside the filters. When you said 2 filter I through the other one would be in the tank and a pig of job to do :)

Nice job 👍 interestingly the hydraulic lines for the dynamic drive are on the opposite side undertray, would be good to check that for leaks to diagnose the dynamic drive error

Try and keep the fuel level above a quarter, in other words 1/4 = empty. That way you wont suck up all the sediment at the bottom of the fuel tank and very, very quickly start to block your new fuel filters.

Hi George: Have you thought about replacing your 105 degree thermostat with a 90 degree one? It is frightening to see the temp rise to 107 plus in slow traffic from the around 90 degrees or so it runs at when you are on the move. I am going to do so to reduce the strain on the cooling system - including my new BimmerFix that I recently installed along with all the hoses and waterpump.
@marktolner29223 жыл бұрын
@@GeorgeAusters It only runs hot when standing still or slow traffic and apparently is only done to help them pass emissions tests as it slightly reduces emissions (a few per cent only though). A sort of BMW "cheat" devise I suspect. The downside is that the cooling system is totally stressed in traffic - leading to leaks and failures. Apparently M type BMWs run the cooler thermostat ... a clue perhaps? I suspect MPG is little different when running at 95 degrees (as it does on the open road anyway) and 107 degrees in traffic. Check out this - I know they want to sell their thermostats but ...... electrorefit.com/product/cold-thermostats-for-petrol-engine-bmw/

The fuel return fuel filter vents fuel from the high pressure fuel pumps leakage line back to the tank not the fuel rail. Fuel rail return goes into the fuel supply line which is 87 psi spec from BMW. Also be careful not to break the cheap plastic "y" line at the main fuel filter. You could always replace it with a brass material. It's just more BMW crap.

@@GeorgeAusters Please give us a update once you take it out for another spin. I have a e46 convertible and a e91 that probably could do with a fuel filter change. The e91 n47 consumes 9.5L/100km which is alot and in a previous video you did mention that the N47 diesel is a economical engine. I had the manifold cleaned at a garage and I saw the before and after photos and it was not as dirty as the one in your video and I did not notice any improvement in performance or mpg’s.
