Cheers mate, doing this tomrrow. Ive done it many times on other cars but your guidence through it and the great pictures will be really good help. Thanks again.

Nice one, make sure you’ve got a decent spring compression

@@MTechGuy Update: So i realised that the shocks on the 1 series and maybe other series also have a somewhat special damping system meaning when you compress the spring to remove it the piston from the shock also returns to a neutral position. I bought a special shock clamp to clamp the piston before compressing the spring and put the other spring on. You have much more length to play with when you do that.(Steady....)

Great video! I recently did this on my e90 330i and it was very similar. Only thing i’d add is it’s worth hand tightening the top struts with the wheels on the floor, going for a quick drive and then torquing them down to the correct torque - it’s easy to over tighten them and strip the thread so people should check the correct torque for their vehicle. It was only 33Nm for mine.

Great video! 👍Questions. How did you match the struts to the springs? What was the Actual time from start to finish? Minus the time at the dealer. I have a 2008 118i E87, M-Sport package, 182000KM, 1st owner. I have been doing my own maintenance after the warranty expired. I felt ripped-off by the dealership. Anyway, I must admit that I'm still driving the car with the original shocks and struts. Thank you for sharing the knowledge. Great job.

Would you consider replacing the springs also?
@MTechGuy11 ай бұрын
I didn’t, I kept the factory m-sport springs which were in good shape. Matched the shocks to the springs

Hahaha! Had exactly the same issue. No problems with disassembly but with those spring compressors reassembly wasn't possible - gave up after nearly losing fingers when they slipped! Should be labelled 'NOT for use on BMW'S'. 😮

Yeah, have to use some caution for sure

Im about to do this on my 1 series, but i know its hard to compress them so i was waiting to see if he manage to do it or not 😁 Im also going to be handing it over to my local garage to have them put it together, i dont have the proper tools for it anyways. 🙂 So then its just a simple swap hopefully!

RUN Flat tyres doesent contribute to ride quality as well and life span on struts either! Still it´s an beast and A LOT OF FUN to ride still !

Hello mate. Where did you get your struts from? Did you have a part number by any chance please? thanks

Surprised the front suspension aren’t double wishbone you find in performance cars.

Car was m-sport, matched the shorter version of the shocks for m-sport. Approx. 3 hrs for removal, disassembly/re-assembly and reinstall. I had the dealer assemble the struts though with their factory spring compressor, I think they charge me half an hour which is fair
