These are fantastic cars, but there is one simple rule: be ready to basically pay the amount equal to the purchase price to make them proper E9X again. In other words: a 100K mile N52 car ($7K) will require new front struts, news shocks front and rear, probably half of bushings replaced, new brakes front and rear, water pump / thermostat, drive belt, diff fluid and transmission fluid/filter changed. I don't mention cosmetic issues inside and out (there is nothing special here, with the exception of bi-xenon headlights that can give you a lot of headache). And, oh, N54 is a very different story too.

It’s true, I can only recommend e9x to someone who works on cars themselves, I changed all of what you mentioned and it cost me around 2.5k. If I took it to a garage it would cost easily double that. But now the car drives and feels like a new car and it’s amazing so it’s definitely worth it if u can do the work yourself. Also when it comes to shocks/struts and springs it’s best to upgrade them. I upgraded to bilsteins b12 kit. It was only around 300 more than standard but definitely worth it.
