I sliced my left index finger too on that thin metal clip swapping out my 2012 335is battery. My 4-year old dealer-installed BMW 90 AH lead acid battery failed catastrophically last week. I replaced it with a made-in-Germany Walmart Everstart 95AH AGM. Both H8. Installed, coded and registered the new battery. Yes, that short-bolt battery hold-down bracket is a bear to reinstall. I set it aside out of frustration. Tonight after fiddling with it for about an hour, I was finally able to lower both the bracket and the stubby bolt in place by stuffing some plastic wrap around the bracket hole to keep the bolt from falling out (oh, that's what the O-ring that fell off was for!) I lowered it with my scrunched left hand sideways holding the bracket with thumb and healed index finger and eventually got it lined up with the threaded hole, then hand-tightened with right hand with a 10" nut driver extension bar. But yes, a longer hold-down bolt would have made the job much easier!

The biggest pain in the ass battery to replace. Also the way the battery is placed and the weight, it's hard to lift it out of that enclosure as well. I had to remove the battery and put it on a charger a couple of winters ago. It was a nightmare but nice howto video. Moral of the story, drive your car all year long and don't let the battery go down.

Going Li-Ion Battery on my BMW E9X M3. It only weighs 18-25 lbs and can be shipped. It shuts off when the battery is low, so you have enough charge to start the engine. There is also a simple Battery Cutoff device if you store your car for months at a time. Connects to the existing battery terminals.

Good job there. Do you have any recommendations for the quick-release external battery charger connection point? I have the same one as you do in the video for my E92. Also, are there any alternative scanning tools you would recommend? iOS or PC-based software?

Is there a trickle charger that works without having to be plugged in? I am thinking of a car that's parked outside in the winter for example.

Do you need to have an auxiliary 12 v power source connected when exchanging the battery, to avoid loss of preset parameters.

Battery was disconnected from car about 30 minutes. I didn't lose any preset parameters. I just needed to set the time in iDrive after connecting the new battery.

Hi there my battery is dead in my bmw e92 does anyone knows i can put a normal battery in it instead the double expensive agm one? And somehow just disable that useless start stop system? Thanks

If there is a vent tube, then no reason to not use it just like it came from the factory.

Yes, if there a hole in the battery for the vent tube, probably a good idea to reattach it. And use a stopper plug (usually included with new battery) to seal the hole at the opposite side of the battery.
