Putting the engine back in is like painting, everyone wants to get to throwing the top coat down, but it's the boring prep that makes it a good job. i dont think i realized you hadnt plugged your head ports. You need to do that while its apart. Especially with your port injection firing 'up' and into them. It will dillute your oil quickly and cause lots of excessive pressure espeically with all the boost you had wound into it and could be a major reason you had an issue with the old motor. Plug those head ports while its apart, and a proper high/low catch can system.

So I fitted port meth injection recently. I have been running charge pipe methanol for over a year, I had my valves walnut blasted back in 2017, and they were still pretty clean I have done around 45 000km since then. I have no oil catch can. I saw the valves a few weeks back when I fitted my port methanol injection. I would look into methanol injection if I were you as it really does keep the valves clean. I am guessing that with my new port methanol injection my valves will probably stay clean for the foreseeable future. Port fuel injection is nice but Methanol is very corrosive so it keeps valves squeaky clean. My throttle body looked new inside! Im sure i can push them to 24 psi without issue given what others have experienced.
@ZeroTo60Tube4 жыл бұрын
I am fairly confident this oil has come from the engine, you can see its built up on the wastegate flapper, the oil can not get to the wastegate flapper from the turbo oil seal. So it's probably fine. The strange thing to me right now is how rusty the housing is.

The more oil buildup on the last 3 cylinders is due to the path of least ristance from intake manifold going to the back 3 ports. The oil from the turbo is because the air that has all the oil from the PCV vent gets thrown at the rear turbo due to the reason above. Go look at the intake mani and the last 3 ports.

14:20 mark the quality of the castings are terrible. In the close up it looks like corrosion on one side. Why didn't you show us the exhaust valves? The corrosion alone those turbos are garbage. We need to see the exhaust valves. Bad metallurgy. And that is 1200 miles? Terrible. Oh and it's the turbo cartridge. I think it's corrosion/casting where the cartridge meets exhaust casting. Show us the exhaust valves please. But I did see green coolant, and BMW coolant is blue, I'm just wondering if the chemical makeup of that coolant with water is accelerating the corrosion on the turbos.
@ZeroTo60Tube4 жыл бұрын
Green coolant is absolutely fine in these engine here in Australia. Do you want to see the exhaust valves in the head? Its just a carbon'd up mess. Can't see anything useful.
@igotaction4 жыл бұрын
@@ZeroTo60Tube yes please, if the valve/valve seat is bad you should have post cylinder combustion marks outside the head, if the valve seals are bad you will see oil on the valve stems. No oil mess, no post cylinder combustion, the turbos are the problem. #1 forward intake valve seal is bad. That could be the problem. Missed it the first time.
@milehighboost55214 жыл бұрын
Do not rebuild the turbo. The oil is clearly coming from cylinders 1 and 2 for some reason. The turbine wheel would be coated in oil if it was a blown seal which of course would be unlikely due to the age of the turbos and seals.

It's wierd how fast these chinese turbos corrode. The turbine housings of the oem turbos are casted as well but i haven't noticed near as much corrosion on them when I pulled my turbos. Almost seems like the chinese try to get away with the cheapest materials :-D.

That turbo is slightly concerning 😕. I'd seperate it from the housing and look under the turbine heat shield for signs of burnt oil. That's a bit of oxidation on the manifolds as well, I wouldn't have expected that much. Obviously gets hot.. Lean burn won't be helping it either.
@ZeroTo60Tube4 жыл бұрын
Very good points. Hmmmm you are providing very sensible reasons for me to do more work here.
@Ewok_Nz4 жыл бұрын
@@ZeroTo60Tube just thinking about it.. Pretty much worst case scenario for the corrosion is after a pull and then let you off the throttle. The manifold will be red hot and the motor will then be pumping in oxygen rich exhaust into it. It's eating it alive lol.
