BMW ECU compartment, water damage

In this video, i would like to share some experience with you all, to show how to save a huge bill, by doing a simple procedure with every BMW, this particular car is E60, but the procedure is same for all other series as well. Customer brought the car with starting problem, untill we found this. Ended with changing ecu, (DDE, DME).

Thanks for uploading this video.i just , checked my ECU box and found some Water, actually the previous owner didn't use the ECU box cover,and messed up the compartment.managed to clear the drain and ordered one cover from eBay, saves me slot.many thanks

Hi I have had my ecu replaced from water damage twice in 2 years. I’ve drilled extra holes at the bottom of the ecu compartment and cleaned the areas. Is there anything else I can do to make sure this doesn’t happen again?

My 320i had some water in the box after I washed it at the carwash. Now a week later the car don't want to start... Any suggestions?

Sorry for the late reply..moisture at the ecu pin periodically corrode the connections..remove the connection from the ecu ,give a good clean with electronic contact cleaner and have a try.. Connect and disconnect 2 , 3 times which will remove any corrosions as well. Removing the harness is bit tricky but easy..careful don't break it.. Thanks

I have a 2008 BMW xi . The car got flooded. The car won't start. The gauge doesn't lights up. There is power in the car. Window works. Dome lights and accessories works. ?? Any advice?

Your footwell module and the body control module may be damaged. When it comes to flood damge , assessing the level of damage is hard. Need a good autoelectrician. And it is time consuming..
