Had this happen to my 335i due to a dying battery, replaced the battery and after some frustrating days I got it reset with ista+. Getting it setup was a hassle of trial and error but finally got it working like a charm.

I’m having this happen my battery died the day before I jump started it and it worked fine then the next day it just wouldn’t start and I’m lost this is my first bmw.

Hi Dave, Thank you for the videos you posted on KZbin; they’ve been really helpful. I called my next-door mechanic to fix my 2006 BMW Series 1 Automatic, which has the same steering lock issue you mentioned in your videos. He came over and connected the diagnostic computer, but he said there was no access to the computer, almost like there is no power. I’ve already installed a new battery to ensure it’s okay, but there’s still no response. What would you recommend as the next step?

The only equipment I had was the ‘Snap-On Verus Edge’ scantool. But most good scan tools should be able to do it 😉👍👍

You just started the car after clearing the faults so why are you saying that it didn’t sort it?

It did start but was still intermittently not starting. My problem was the electronic steering lock causing the no start condition. I have a video on fitting a steering lock ‘emulator’ in the vehicle instead of the steering lock itself 😉👍👍👍

@@deeplover161 unfortunately the car I recorded was the 1 & only emulator I have ever fitted. I would be impossible for me to give you good fault finding guidance on this repair. Sorry I couldn’t be of more assistance 😔😔

Great video....have the same problem, done ELV reset.. No more error codes, car started...after a few minutes it comes back... What could cause the it? Have to redo resetting all over to get the engine started

I have the same issues on my e90 I left my car in storage 3 years smh and I’m wondering why it doesn’t start with new battery I guess I have a long road ahead of me

not a fan of bmw cars give me a mk4 mondeo any day , would i be correct in saying removal of the electronic steering lock when the emulator is fitted would be needed ? . cheers

That is right John, I disassembled the steering lock motor for testing after i disengaged the lock. But the mechanical bit engaged again while working on the electrical side, so it might be fun trying to get that to release again ( it doesn’t seem to want to release easily )🤔
