BMW Emergency Transmission Shift Lock Release to Neutral

I'm going to show you how to release your BMW gear selector for the transmission so you can put it in neutral in case you need to get a tow. You will not need any special tools to put your vehicle in neutral even if your battery is completely dead. This works for the 528i 530i 535i E60 E61 and many other BMW vehicles. The tool is located in the trunk of the vehicle inside the factory toolbox.
With a low battery or electronic shifter | gearbox failure you will need to engage the emergency transmission release to move or tow your BMW 5 Series. Step-by-Step Direction
Shift by wire is the system by which the transmission modes are engaged/changed in an automobile through electronic controls without any mechanical linkage between the gear shifting lever and the transmission. The transmission shifting was traditionally accomplished by mechanical links to put the vehicle in Park, Reverse, Neutral and Drive positions through a lever mounted on the steering column or a gear shifter near the center console.
This eliminates routing space required for housing the mechanical linkages between the shifter and the transmission and provides effortless shifting through the press of a button or through knobs. Elimination of this linkage removes any shift effort from the driver’s gear selection.

Thanks for the instructions! Mine is a 2006 550I and it was a little different with regards to the placement of the screwdriver but I figured it out and it worked like a charm!

Great. Mom's 09 528i, doesn't have that problem, but awesome to know. I don't find any video doing her style running board trim, though.... And should not show low oil, so maybe oil pan sensor bad
