Keep the cluster as it will probably be hard to find a second one at that great deal you mentioned. Besides once you get a tune you will want to have the cluster to enjoy the updates it has over the stock one.

First comment! Holy cow never thought of the towel trick - what a disaster it would be if that closed... I suppose you could use jumper cables from the engine bay but never considered the trunk closing... I am actually editing a video now for steering wheel removal - lol. Thanks.

From what I understand, the cluster can be coded to change with the traction control button.

My car didn’t come with paddle shifters. You can upgrade but you will need to code your car. I had previously coded my car for Sport transmission so I’m not 100% sure what coding did the trick.

With BimmerCode for the paddle shifters did you simply have to activate them or did you have to go to expert mode and code a few things for them to work?

Were you able to figure this out? I activated my paddles with Bimmercode, but I had previously coded (2TB) Sport Transmission months before doing this upgrade. So, I'm not sure what actually activated the paddles.

Hi Grant , I'm looking at the 6WB cluster , i've read that it does not display the speed unless you're in sport mode .. is this correct ? please can you give any feedback you have from fitting it and any problems that might have surfaced since the install . also , was this a "virginized" cluster , IE re-set to work in the new car ? thanks for the vids , they're really cool Jon

Hey, I am not running a 6wb cluster at the moment, but I am familiar with how they function. The cluster will display speed in every mode, although Sport modes will be a numerical display instead of the normal needle sweep. Install is simple, you will just want to make sure the cluster has been virginized and you will need to have your Kombi ECU updated to run the 6wb cluster.

The wheel plugged right in. No wiring necessary. I had already coded the car for 2tb, so the paddles worked immediately.

So, I’m not 100% sure. Before I installed the paddles I had already coded my car for Sport Transmission which also can include paddle shifters. I think it’s 2TB. I also coded paddles via Bimmercode, so I’m not sure which one actually activated the paddles.

No the base steering wheel, m sport steering wheel and LCI M sport steering wheels all have different airbags.

lsturbointeg Yeah, I got the cluster cheap and actually sold it last week. I have a 6wa on the way, we will see if I keep it or not. Also, picked up the R270 programmer but it hasn’t arrived from China yet. When it does I will find out if I can virginize these clusters.

Sorry, yes the the 6wb came on the 7 series and 6 series. It wasn’t available on the US 5 series.

Btw, only put 400 miles since the oil catch can install and the dip stick still dry. Hopefully the smaller tubing isn't preventing the catch can from doing its job? But than again I have only driven 400 miles

That BMW 6WB cluster for the F10 is a joke! I have it in my F10 and trying it out from before buying it to see if I like it, then i could buy it for way less than 1K if I decide to.... Well let me tell you, BMW really went cheapo on this cluster..... 1. Its NOT HD and not even clear/sharp image, it produces blurry detail and washed out colors. 2. Not that bright. Driving in the day time you hardly see what's displaying and it's freakin' annoying! 3. You get bored quick and not get impressed. 4. The colors are washed out like I said and are not deep in colors contrast. Making the cluster seem like a cheap product. 5. The orange is way off and not the orange of the classic BMW and not enjoyable. 6. When switching to Sport mode, screen becomes red but nothing special. 7. Really looks out of place, the cluster has nothing BMW oriented and makes the F10 look non BMW! 8. Way overpriced for something poorly made and coming from BMW as their second version (which doesn't fit F10 models) have a better sharper screen, sharper details and looks just a little bit better but still you get bored quick! I will continue using the 6WA cluster as that still is semi-analog/digital and still looks amazing and perfect for any F10 and sticks true to BMW roots! *** 6WB Cluster = Not worth it!

I think you can just activate them, however I not 100% sure. I coded 2tb (Sport Transmission) with Esys before I purchased BimmerCode, so I'm not sure how that changed this setting on my car.

So there are a few methods you can use to code extra features on your BMW. The easiest method is Bimmercode, which requires you to purchase an app and a OBD2 dongle. If you search Bimmercode on KZbin, there are tons of videos showing you how the process works. If you have an Enet cable, you can do most of this coding for free, but it takes knowledge and research to do this programming with a program called Esys.
