I wanted to share this easy upgrade for your car, if you are going down the progression of higher turbo settings with the OEM turbo. If you have done the BIG turbo upgrade, then you absolutely should be upgrading your TMAP sensor as well.
The TMAP sensor is in the side of your charge pipe, and monitors turbo pressures. The factory 3.0 bar sensor is good to 20-22lbs psi, which is a lot considering the factory turbo max was 9psi. 20 is well within reach if you are running the Active Autowerke Active 8 jump box, JB4 jump box or even better, the Active Autowerke full ECU tune.
A 3.5 bar sensor is good into 30s, and if you have a big turbo upgrade, the 4.0 is good well past 40psi, which you will never hit with the factory turbo. A 3.5 is perfect for now.
The install is really simple, with really only one tool to get the job done and about 10min or less!
*NOTE - Your car will throw an error code if you change this sensor without a matching ECU tune change. I have a specifically modified Active Autowerke ECU tune to take advantage of this sensor change**
Required parts and tools:
3.5bar OEM TMAP sensor

screwdriver (for OEM charge pipe)
7mm socket (for AA charge pipe)
Nice to have:

I went to the link and it said it doesn’t fit my f32 435i xdrive. I also have the jb4 is this gonna work well without codes?
@BMWDIYGuy

Tony Lam do great question.. I don't know if the JB4 will clear that code.. I suspect it won't. It was the specific tune build from AA that was able to adjust to the higher sensor and clear that code.
@KiesMotorsports

Tony Lam the old JB4 firmware allowed for it, but they took away the functionally on the new ones

so I just installed a VRSF charge pipe and I'm get a fault about my MAP sensor do I need to upgrade it or will a OEM work for me
@BMWDIYGuy
@BMWDIYGuy 2 жыл бұрын
If just changing the pipe, you shouldn't need to change the map sensor. You only really need to change or upgrade the sensor if you need a higher boost rating from your tune.

Will this work on Bmw F36 N55 435i Grand Coupe? Thanks in advance!

Absolutely yes but you will need a tune to recognize the new sensor.

Quick Question - On ECSTUNING website it shows that this sensor does not support my BMW F30 335i sedan (2015). You installed it on your N55 , so I take it it will then work for mine?
@BMWDIYGuy
@BMWDIYGuy 4 жыл бұрын
Correct.. by DEFAULT it doesn't work with the N55 motor, but keep in mind you require a tune like BM3 or others to allow this to work. If you install this sensor without a tune change, you will get an error.

On a N55 should both pre-throttle and manifold MAP sensors be changed to the 3.5 bar ones if using a turbo upgrade with custom tune?

Not that I am aware of and only swapped this sensor on advice of my tuner Active Autowerke

Hi.. I notice this video is a little old.. And I want to ask if the purchase link of this tmap sensor is still working with the correct product (for the N55 435i) in my case an 2014 435i coupe.. I'm asking this because when I tryed to Check compatibility seems like it doesn't fit with my car.. Thanks for your help!
@BMWDIYGuy
@BMWDIYGuy 3 жыл бұрын
So yes the link is right.. it will show was wrong for the model, as technically it is wrong. You will need to code the car with BM3 or MHD or similar to support the new sensor, or you will get an error. You only want to change to the 3.5 bar sensor if you are 20lbs of boost or higher.
@Bullcooper69

@@BMWDIYGuy Thanks for your answer.. I just have the last question, i'm running the stage 2+ by mhd, it has stock Turbo, downpipe, charge pipe, mst air filter, diverter valve, csf fmic, two steps colder spark plugs and the precision raceworks ignition coils kit.. How do I know if I am over 20 pounds of boost or less? In this way, check if it is necessary to change the tmap sensor with the 3.5 one Again, thank you very much
@BMWDIYGuy
@BMWDIYGuy 3 жыл бұрын
@@Bullcooper69 check your logs for boost commanded and actual, the logs will show it. If you are not over 20, you really don't need a 3.5 and some will argue you don't need it at all. There an option, I believe, in your tune settings to select a 3.5 bar sensor and reflash, if you make the change.

I noticed oil buildup around my TMAP sensor, what could this be?
@BMWDIYGuy

I strongly suggest an oil catch can, as it sounds like you have a lot coming up through your intake

@@BMWDIYGuy thank you. Also, would it make sense that the little o-ring gasket that is located on the TMAP sensor failed? Potentially creating a little boost leak since there’s gunk buildup around the sensor?
@BMWDIYGuy

@@michaelnikprelaj6679 Its possible but I wouldn't think so off hand.

I"m hitting 21 easily with little timing pulled less than 1 and my afr are in the low 13s at peak boost. This is after i BEF with burgers map and the JB4 on my 435i FBO e85 40% Have you tried boosting over 21 with the factory turbo?

@@BMWDIYGuy Nice just ordered a new Tmap. After the BEF for the f33 the trims are half of what they were @ 21psi on JB4 - more head room it looks like. Give it a go! Hopefully i can get 22-24 psi well see though lol

I have a 335i so you saying that if I have a jb4 it may miss read the map sensor or it may mess it up. What can I do about it
@BMWDIYGuy
@BMWDIYGuy 5 жыл бұрын
So maybe.. keep in mind I swapped my sensor as I am approaching 20lbs PSI and in my case, my tune was updated to reflect the changed sensor. If you swap out the sensor without the JB4, or a custom tune updated to reflect the change, you may get an error. I had a JB4 briefly before I moved onto other things, so make sure to check if your JB4 will deal with a changed sensor.

Would you recommend for Dinan Big turbo?
@BMWDIYGuy
@BMWDIYGuy 6 жыл бұрын
From a theoretical place, absolutely but never have owned any of their products. Dinan has a close relationship with BMW and if I had the cash, I would love to just drop a car off there and let them go to town on it. There are definite options for turbo upgrade, and I would love to do any of them including Dinan.
