Bmw f650 cooling problems. Overheating, fan switch, thermostat,

In this video we have good news and bad news, the good news is that the bike passed its mot, the bad news is that it overheated on the way to the mot. After a day of testing and investigation I believe it needs a new fan switch which has been ordered and is on its way.

That other unit on top of the thermostat housing could be the temperature sender unit. Don't forget to flush cooling system with white vinegar and get some more coolant Charlie. Great fault finding 👍

Good idea yes it needs a good flush. Not sure how long it will take for the new switch to arrive but hopefully it will be here Friday or Saturday.

The most common failure on these bikes is the water pump, and there’s a repair kit for it……🕊️

Hi Ernie, bike went a couple years ago but if I remember rightly I did have to rebuild the pump. These are one of my favorites bikes, it's such a shame the ulez stuff came in.

@@motorcyclerescuer Is it not ULEZ compliant? I just bought one and on the way home the light came on while driving in the city but once on the motorway the light went off, so I assume it is either the fan or the thermostat

They aren't ulez compliant. You will have to check it over as it could be anything from old coolant to switches, fans, rad etc

Good morning, my bmw is in trouble, I took it in a mechanic but he didn’t know how to diagnose the problem, when the engine heats up and turns on the fan it works for about 5 seconds and stops and turns it on the battery it runs well, already got some with problem like that?

It sounds like the sensor inside the radiator needs to be changed. Cleaning it out first might help. I would give the coolant system a flush, new thermostat and new coolant. That should solve the issue. Thanks for watching and please subscribe
