Great video and congrats on driving your Hero M3 for over a year. I have Cerebral Palsy since birth. I have always wanted to drive my own car since I turned 18 many, many years ago. And the car brand of choice is of course a BMW, ever since I saw a BMW M3 e36 way back in the 90's. I finally managed to reach my goal of driving my own car, in late 2008, a BMW at the age of 29 and 2 months just before I turned 30. It was a BMW 1 Series 2005 e87 120d. It was a life changer for me to finally drive a BMW, it's not a M3 but was really happy in owning that car. I now drive a BMW e90 2007 model 330d since early 2016, and still going strong. I too want to reach my goal in driving my own M3 someday.

Happy Birthday to you James, May you have an awesome, blessed day. I also wrote an email to BMW in Germany in 2015, telling them how much I want to experience driving a BMW M car so bad, but can't afford it. They contacted me about a week later, and contact a BMW M dealership in Cape Town, Auto Atlantic BMW to assist me in making my dream come true. Here's a video of that day I finally drove a BMW M car. It was a BMW M4 convertible. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pGa2hmqDmrmKjMk

James Bachici Channel hey James, so I’ve owned my M3 since January 2018. Interlagos blue with tan hide. I also own a 1988 E30 325i mtec coupe. Schwartz black with cream leather. I’ve owned it for the last 20 years. I’m 41 years old so driving the E30 back then was really really cool. It’s been fully restored, time warp condition and hasn’t seen rain since. Hopefully I’ll upload something very soon. Once my friend puts his E30 m3 sport evolution on the road I’ll do a joint video. Yeah, not evo 1 or evo 2 but a m3 sport. Can’t wait.

James Bachici Channel .... After months of narrowing my search I finally bought one 2 days ago. 2016 Silverstone exterior Sakhir interior with Carbon Fiber trim, six speed manual with style 513 wheels. Coming from a 225 hp e46 I'm completely satisfied. It's an event just walking up to the car and driving it. Did a full day wash, wax and detailing it to learn its curves and I'm very impressed with everything the car has to offer. And the steering! To me it feels similar to my 330ci. Now, my wife wants her own F80. Looks like when her 335i is paid for I'm definitely going to steer her into one.

Great review! I love your enthusiasm. These cars are superb. My first M car was an Alpine white E46, and from the day I got it, I was in love. Unfortunately, I went through some financial pain during the recession in 2008, and the car was repossessed, ugh! I never had any desire for the E9x cars, the styling didn't do it for me. But when the F8x car came out, I knew I had to have one eventually. I picked up an F80 about 4 months ago, and the experience has been even beyond that of the E46. I simply love the car. Cannot imagine it being any better. Thank you again for your amazing review!

Awesome to watch your video, James. I can relate because I picked up my new 2018 M3 on 6/5/2018. I chose the Alpine White for color and the carbon fiber roof, so it was fun watching yours which looks very similar to mine. No doubt, this is definitely the "benchmark car" I thought it would be, no disappointments. The car is absolutely incredible. It's so solid, it feels bullet proof; and tough, you just can't hurt it. I also use my M3 every day, business and pleasure. It can serve any purpose you might want from a premium vehicle. The author is right about the honeymoon not going away; it's never gone away for me after 8 months of ownership. The more I get to know to vehicle, the better it feels every time I start the engine. It's almost like there's no limits. It is truly the Ultimate Driving Machine. I previously owned a 335i and it gave me the desire to take the next big step with an M3 purchase. I have no regrets whatsoever. If you're watching these M3 videos and thinking about getting an M Car, I say you only live once, so.....GO FOR IT!!

Lastly, will start my M hunt asap. id really love to own some older M cars (e39 m5, e46 m, e60 m5 manual, e92 and or e90, maybe an e36 3.2) but I couldn't stomach the maintenance costs to keep them on the road. My last M car was my e60 M5 and It just got to a point where I was worried to drive 50 miles for fear of getting stuck on side of the road during busy traffic, sucks when you have issues and then it overcomes your love and confidence. I'll probably get an f80 comp package car, going to drive one tomorrow! I have an AMG GTS edition 1 tuned and looking to replace it with the M3, I cannot stand mercedes dealers/autonation here in south florida, my recent month experiences with the car/warranty work! Thank you for supporting my channel! I’ll be browsing your threads and will be trying to suppress a desire to delve deep into the E46 CSL rabbit hole 😄 Exciting! Please keep me posted on any possible M front-runners. If you haven’t done so already, you should browse the Enthusiast Auto Group. Their catalog is, from the last time I checked them out, incredibly pricey. With that said, the examples they have in stock are some of the nicest, OEM-est, cleanest on the market. Still, you can’t go wrong with an F80 Comp. better yet, if you want it a bit extra special, go for the CS variant, or even the 30 Jahre Edition. AMG GTS Edition 1 - that’s awesome! But I completely hear you on the dealership experience. I’ve heard countless stories from what could have been BMW owners that have gone on to purchase from other manufactures simply because of the buying experience. Luckily for me BMW Seattle is aces. Low-key, no pressure, respectful, and approachable.

I've had my 2018 BMW F80 M3 Competition for 8 months and I love the look and how it handles. I notice the difference compared to my old 2009 E90 M3 in how the car handles around corners. BMW really did a great job with the F80. Went with the Mineral Grey with 20" Alloy 666 rims. Sakhir Orange Full Leather. Exterior Carbon Fiber Splitters and Lip. Diffuser, Tips, and Spoiler. Interior I went with the Carbon Fiber/Alcantara Steering Wheel. Carbon Fiber Break with Alcantara Boot. Carbon Fiber DCT Gear Selector and Carbon Fiber handles. Now, these are the BMW warranted parts which I added. Added Note: I changed out the black grill for a Carbon Fiber grill and I'm looking to do a sort of faded lettering paint job under the driver's headlight and rocker panel, with the lettering saying M Performance. Still deciding how I want to customize the paint job. Thinking about doing just a slightly darker grey or do black on the top of the lettering and have the lettering fade downward or both.
@JamesBachiciChannel6 жыл бұрын
Peter your F80 sounds epic! Would love to see a quick video tour of your ride. It sounds like you're really into M Performance Parts yourself, and the "shadow" lettering I think would look awesome! I'm seriously considering the leather/alcantara M Performance steering-wheel myself. That, plus the alcantara arm-rest and the M Performance floor mats :)
@peterthompsonmd96466 жыл бұрын
@@JamesBachiciChannel Those mods would look perfect with the black interior. Especially the Alcantara/Carbon Fiber steering-wheel. That will give the black interior a much sportier look. Have you considered doing the Carbon Fiber interior door handles? Will you be attending Bimmerfest 2019? The wife and I will be flying out for the event. Although, I would have loved to show my car there but trying to get my F80 to Pasadena isn't easy considering I live in Myrtle Beach, SC. Here in Myrtle Beach, they do a car show nearly every weekend during the summer, or Cars-N-Coffee on Saturdays, which I enjoy going to because I pick up some really great ideas for my car. I'm also considering taking off the M3 badge in the rear of the car and doing shadow lettering "M3".
@JamesBachiciChannel6 жыл бұрын
Yup yup. And yes, I've considered the carbon fiber interior door handles. Might be something that I do once a "refresh" is needed :) Sadly, as of right now, I have no plan to attend Bimmerfest 2019, but that could always change. Also, wow, South Carolina is pretty far away from Pasadena! Same here in the Seattle/Redmond/Bellevue/Kirkland area. During summer time there's what we call "Exotics at Redmond Town Center" every Saturday morning (basically cars and coffee on steroids) last time I attended there was a Ferrari LaFerrari plus a LaFerrari Aperta present. Both were owned by the same guy. Super nice gentleman. These events, like you point out, are great for idea-generating for your next upgrade, but it's a little rough on the wallet :)

I want a 10 year update on the drivetrain parts you have to replace and the cost. Not many make it to 200k before people lose the maintenance game and get rid of them. Buying it new or lightly used and getting rid of it after lease is up or when you're out of warranty is easy. Keeping them past 100k is where the true challenge begins. There's a reason dealers masturbate on used lexuses and vommit on used German cars.

Recently test drove a 17' M4 with the comp pack and while it was a beautiful car, ehhhhh I didn't find myself leaving the dealer absolutely having to have it. The hero intro, I get it, I thought it would make me feel a different way. At the price they were asking and knowing the depreciation curve and how many miles I may or may not put on it it left me feeling indifferent about it.
@JamesBachiciChannel4 жыл бұрын
That's fair, and of course personal tastes cannot be judged - you like what you like, simple as that. Interesting that the 17' wasn't more competitively priced to appeal more to you. A curious thing that we'll want to observe moving forward is, depending on the design of the G8X gen, we'll either see the F8X gen retain value better, or depreciate more pending people vote with their pocketbooks and flock towards the new M3 and M4. Sorry to hear you weren't blown away, but I hope you find your hero car soon. It's cheesy, but I do hope you come back and let me know what that car is once you find it!

@@JamesBachiciChannel I think regarding price I've had a buddy who had a first year 428i with the M sport package and I've ridden in it so many times. While certainly not the same engine, aside from seats as I was driving I just couldn't help but think I'm in the same car. Also, I'll admit I'm going used and I'm not a worrier like most when it comes to used BMW's (owned an 02 330ci) I couldn't help but think about breaking something because like the DCT and the whole crank hub thing that people go on and on about. I don't drive a lot but it would be my DD which I don't see an issue in. I've been flirting with the idea of an LC500. If they fall into the $50's I think it becomes a lot of car for the money. I'm not a track guy which I will admit the BMW is far more set up to be.

When I got my license a months ago I got a 2014 335i m sport. Although it isn’t as fast as a m3 (yet), it’s still such a great first car. The car had a m performance exhaust and the power kit already installed from the previous owner, and I can agree that the mpe is a must even on non m cars. When it is time to get a new car in a few years, I will definitely be going to a bmw dealership to custom order an m3 or m4 and maybe even do euro delivery (if offered) to watch it be built and take it on the autobahn.

Definitely does help, and the other comments are saying the same. My first M was an 1998 E36 Evolution Cabrio, 79k, estoril blue, came with hardtop, KW coilovers and BBK already installed. I only bought it as the price was at the floor due to the fact it needed linkages in the gearbox sorted. The seller insisted it needed a box overhaul and gave it to me for a song. After only 3 weeks of having it I was driving to work in winter, thick fog and ice at 5am. I hit a frozen spot of ice coming off a roundabout and the rear end popped out a little, but I corrected it in time. But a car coming towards me on the opposite side must've thought I was going to spin out and had already crossed over to the middle of the road, so instead of us hitting I took the M into the side and it clipped the barrier. It didn't feel bad, but the insurers wrote it off. I was absolutely gutted, but when the insurer offered me nearly 3k more than I had paid for it I went straight out hunting for my new M! I knew I wanted phoenix yellow, and the best one available at that time was quite far down south. So I had pics sent from the seller, checked the history and flew down the next week. After a quick drive I knew it was a decent one and settled a price with the seller. So now I'm still the proud owner of a 2001 pheonix yellow cabrio. It came with full history, and the only thing I've had to swap out (apart from general maintenance items) are a MAF sensor and coil packs. Fast forward 3 years later and at 133k it is still pulling like a train and I just wouldn't have anything else. Only mods are an Eventuri CAI and custom remap. I'm considering a full refurb over the next few years as the wheel arches have got a bit of the dreaded UK rot appearing and I've got a slight hesitation at just under 2.5k rpm so the vanos will need overhauling. The compression is still high enough and all cylinders are well within 10% of each other so no need for a head gasket just yet. Recent oil analysis showed the rod bearings are still ok, but I will probably do them along with new piston rings and HG at the same time while the engine is apart. A wavetrac diff is on the cards as well as making sure the RACP is still holding up. The cabrio has more strengthening in that area so fingers crossed there are no cracks appearing just yet! If not, I'll just reinforce it with a vince brace and after all that the last thing will be to look at going FI. Just like all M cars it still turns heads and the road presence it commands makes it an event to drive every no matter how long or short the journey. Yes, there are faster, newer cars out there but as all the major work on the E46 costs a lot it will probably be a long time yet before I even think about moving onto something else. Still worth every penny, and I've no problem taking a hit on the costs when the time comes for me to eventually grow up and move on! lol

That’s amazing! The love and attention you’re according your E46 is commendable and rare these days! I’m happy to hear you’re keeping it in the road and racking in more miles. Thanks for sharing, and please keep me posted on any future work/upgrades you do in your M 👍🏻😃

Totally with you on that one mate! Those super low mile examples are doing nothing for the car itself. I was in one last year that had only done 29k and it felt as if it had lost at least a quarter of it's power over time. The owner was having none of it till we lined up and had a few friendly races. After comfortably (or blitzing) his every attempt to keep up he was convinced I must've had it bored it out or had a serious racing ECU map. It took at least an hour to get through to him it was because his own car had sat for so long inbetween drives and hadn't seen over 5k rpm for years that it would take a good few high speed blasts to "loosen" it up. Anyways, thanks for the replies my good man. Be safe and enjoy the roads you travel ;)

Couldn’t agree more! Years ago I drove a low mileage E39 M5 that was always carefully driven and never pushed. It felt exactly like you had described - down on power and slow! Thanks again for the kind words. Safe travels to you as well my friend, and keep us posted on your adventures with the E46!

Curious to know why you bought this M3 and not an M2 as the M2 is more like the classic M3s where as the M3 is more like a M4
@JamesBachiciChannel4 жыл бұрын
Great question! Your preface is based on the idea that size/dimension was the primary reason as to why I was attracted to the M3 (back when I first fell in love with it) during the E46 era. It's not. And over the years I test drove many M models for BMWBLOG and so I was able to form preferences and opinions as to what ticked my inner "boxes" and what was just "ok" for me. In short, the power, and the convenience of 4 doors, coupled with the wider/beefier fenders of the F80 generation made me chose it over the F87. Now if the F87 was offered with 4 doors (think M2 Gran Coupe) and included the M2 CS engine, now THAT would probably make things a little bit more interesting! Be sure to watch Part 2 for a reveal as to what I'm currently driving :)

James Bachici Channel I have a passion for creating videos as well believe it or not I have all my camera gear and I have made videos but a bit dubious of uploading it and trying something I haven’t ever done before! It certainly is many people laughed when I said I would have one at 21 as you can imagine it isn’t an easy goal to achieve, it’s a F83 so it’s a convertible and it’s grey with the red interior my all time dream spec, dct although apart of me wishes I got a manual so you really have a connection with the car instead of just blipping the flappy paddles but the dct is an amazing gearbox so I can’t complain! James Bachici Channel I think I will finish them and upload them after this conversation! My last two cars were also manual and as this isn’t my daily I came very close to getting the manual but my dream spec was there in front of me and I couldn’t resist and jumped at the opportunity! I’m currently chasing the carbon lips and competition exhaust as I want more drama as I find the standard exhaust just a bit bland at times, we have country lanes where I am and I started to make a comparison of the i8 and M4 and which I think is the better car for the early morning Sunday drives and after this I want to finish it and upload it!

Great review, im also thinking of buying and m3, 6spd. How can you switch of the revmatch? Only via DSC off? Id like to drive around town with revmatch on (since you mostly dont brake hard enough on the traffic to manual revmatch) and when going for spirited mountain driving hav revmatch off but dsc (or at least MDM) still on?
@JamesBachiciChannel4 жыл бұрын
Glad you enjoyed it! Rev matching can be turned off at any point if you put the engine/transmission setting to Sport+ Mode. Any other setting combination that you'd like to still have on (like DSC and MDM) can still be active/on independent of your rev matching setting. So you could have engine/transmission setting set to Sport+ and DSC/MDM on/off and they'd all be fine. Additionally, you can save your preferred setting in the MDM menu and quickly jump to it if you'd like. I have 2 settings. M1 which is every day normal driving (Comfort Steering, Comfort Suspension, Sport engine/transmission) and M2 which is full race setting (Sport+ on everything, DSC off) it's very customizable and user friendly. You just need to take 10 minutes when you first get the car to acquaint yourself with the menus/options, once you get the gist of it, it's super easy. Hope this all helps you in making your decision! And if you do end up buying an F80 M3, be sure to come back here and tell me all about it! Side note, I have additional M3 films published. You can watch them all here in order: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bJevZ6GVj9Khp7c

I'm planning to pick up a 2015-16 M3 this summer and am also in Seattle. How have you found driving in the rain, occasional snow? What tires are you running? I'm moving from a STI so loss of AWD is my only concern really.
@JamesBachiciChannel5 жыл бұрын
Very nice! Looking forward to an update once you pick it up! I’m running the factory Performance Michelin’s and am completely happy with them. She feels very planted on the road, even in pouring rain. Snow on the other hand, I haven’t really pushed my luck. I took it out a handful of times during snowpocalypse and it did ok. With that said, I left work early when I knew the weather would turn, and worked from home when it was at its worst. A solid set of winter tires go a long ways though. What spec are you hoping to pick up?
@jackcerchiara67775 жыл бұрын
@@JamesBachiciChannel Thats good to hear! I thought about getting Conti DWS for the winter/rain and keeping the MPSS's for the summer. Though I figure if I'm headed skiing or it snows I could take my wife's Impreza. Ideally, I'd like to get one with the Executive Package and definitely the M-Adaptive Suspension. I think I'm going for the Dual-Clutch as well - I've only ever had manual cars (Audi and STI) and test drove a 2016 M3 Dual Clutch and it was a blast.

Really enjoyed your vid and how high your expectations are for this vehicle. If I made a vid, mine would be same sentiments as yours, for my '04 E46 Cab 6 speed in Carbon Black. One difference being in mine; she does squeak, but I love the car so much, she is forgiven. At 14, she still looks new and I feel same every time I walk up to get in. Good work and purchase, keep enjoying your baby...you made a great choice.

James Bachici Channel I have a six speed mineral grey metallic and recently did a stage three performance tune with dinan. Would I be nuts to daily drive an M3 in Pennsylvania considering snow? I would get a set of snow tires....... Right now I have an AWD ATS 2.0T, but ever since I rode in my friends M3 years ago, I have always thought about getting one.
@JamesBachiciChannel6 жыл бұрын
Glad to hear you’ve been bitten by the M bug! With that said, I’m not sure how bad the weather can get in Pennsylvania come wintertime. Winter tires would definitely go a long way (and in that respect I’d say you get a whole wheel set to go along with the winter rubber so you can swap them easily) but still, is leave that to your better judgement. Consider the wear a harsh winter has on your vehicle. Take into consideration the length of your commute, hills, slopes, bypasses, bridges, etc. that may be along your route. Can you afford (finances, space to store it, etc.)to keep a secondary AWD car that you can take on the worst of days? That’s the best advice I can give you. Also remember - you can be straight up Michael Schumacher behind the wheel, sometimes there’s not a whole lot you can do when you’ve got another car ice-waltzing its way towards you. In those times I’d like a safe car that I don’t care too much about vs. my prized M. Anyways, I hope this was helpful. Keep us posted and stay safe out there!

@alexbern9266 жыл бұрын
Hi James, thank you so much. It has just like yours a carbon fiber m performance splitter, H&R lowering springs, and I put on 20” Breyton Race rims with Continental Sport tires on it. The best decision was the Akrapovic Exhaust exhaust system (but no down pipe which is barely legal in Germany) I would like to get a rear spoiler also in carbon fiber and that pretty much it. I drive just 5000 - 7000km a year with it and my plan is to make it a gift to my son when he is old enough ( he is 17 Months old) .

Hey Varun! Thanks for the kind words, I’m glad you enjoyed my review and I’m happy to hear you’re still very much into your F80 M3! Good question - I had a very specific vision for my ideal ///M.
