I can tell you from owning an F80 for two years that this car is just a blast to drive. Mines a 6 speed and pushing about 500whp. No problems with the car either and I drive it hard. There is the crankhub issue for the higher modded cars and also the factory top mount charge cooler is prone to leak so I changed mine to a mishimoto unit just as preventative maintenance, plus gives like 30hp. Other than that really, solid car. Just a perfect daily when you want it to be and a monster the next. The car does ride on the firmer side though vs regular 3/4 series. Also have a equal length midpipe so it sounds like a n55/ gtr mix now. Third gear is my favorite, get traction and it just pulls all the way to redline, hard.

I've been of fan of the M3 since I got my first ride in my uncle's E30 M3 way back when they first came out(E36 is still my all time fave but my F80 is about to take over). It's the fastest car i've owned so far(stock for now, maybe bm3 stage 1 in the near future) and she just checks all the blocks for me. It's got performance, "some" comfort and looks sexy af(Love the wide rear). I can be a kid addicted to speed and handling/performance yet still be a grown n' classy adult(suit and tie) with it when I want to. That's something my 06 STi couldn't do for me. Was it fast? absolutely. Did people stare when they saw it? Yeah, it was an STi duh! lol! It was a BLAST to drive however, it was a car I could ONLY enjoy driving fast. I do regret never tracking or AutoXing it but I quickly forget about it when I drive my F80. Driving the M3 to me, is an experience. One more thing I’d add is the tendency for this driveline m3 and m2comp to snap oversteer even in a straight line. It happened to me in 4th gear 100km hour on wet road where it decided to spontaneously turn hard left. Thankfully I had MDM MODE traction engaged and it saved me. Was the last thing you expected in a straight line. Also happen to a friend of a friend at drag strip when he drove over the slightest bit of water. His car was written off and not insured. ehhh.... i'm not saying it didn't happen... but you really should not be pushing the throttle with any steering angle in the wet... that's the only way i could see that happening. i've been driving a 450hp 500 lb ft mk5 supra and that has never happened in the wet... and the supra wants to oversteer more than M3/M2.... any torquey RWD car will oversteer in the wet if you're going around a turn and pushing the throttle, that's kind of what happens with RWD in low grip situations...

My friend has a M3 CS And I drive a BMW x435 msport Honestly, it's not the power that's too much for public roads. It's the BMWs chassis design and suspension tuning + the electronic driver aids. They are so incredibly good that it feels like you are never pushing the car to it's limits Making you always wanting more and that 'more' is something you can never have. I mean forget the laws, to drive as fast as you want (without potentially crashing) you still don't come close to what it can do. We have taken the X4 on twisty roads and it carries 120-140kmph through seriously tight bends #x-drive BMWs are designed by magicians

Great video! BTW the air conditioning problem can be fixed at your local BMW shop. They will have to put in a resistor and an update. Took care of my issue. Heard it was because of humidity. My 18 f80 Comp has been perfect. Just hit 25k miles

Mate I have a late f82 m4cp, 2 kids, space in the rear is great, much more than an rs5 or c63, and can fit 2 large adults easy and comfortably! M4 cp looks so much better than m3, easy daily but just need to be careful. Amazing performance and handling. In the UK can't push it all year round - only in summer, in wet and snow need to be super cautious! No brainer - m4
@MikeyG0033 жыл бұрын
Ehhh I think the m3 looks better, especially since they get the super wide rear quarter panels. The booty looks thiccc from behind. But of course, I’m biased cuz I have one lol

@@MikeyG003 If I am honest, I was so close to going for an M3. Practicality (4 doors), plus the rear arches do look amazing - but went for m4 in the end, just looks sleeker, for me anyway. Some of my mates prefer the m3 and I think either is great. The deal breaker for me was seeing cabin space in m4 but I could easier has gone for an m3 and would have no regrets 👌

I keep my 05 Cadillac STS4 1sg f55 in tour for mag ride, turn off trac control and stability control and put in sport for shifting abs that’s how I’ve driven the car since I’ve owned it. I love the car. Also have an ats I always leave it in sport and just put it in drive. I rarely use the magnesium paddle shifters but it was an option I HAD to have hahah

They are definitely too fast. I had a manual 135i back in the day and I got to drive the 125i a few years later and it was so nice to just be able to burn around town revving it out without doing crazy speeds and risking my life. I just wish BMW would do a manual slightly tuned 320i m sport with an LSD for like 65-70k, that would be the most well balanced and fun car

I came out of a number of BMWs and bought an Alfa Guilia Quadrifoglio after reading many head to head reviews where the the Alfa won . I was sceptical but here I am waxing lyrical about how good they are. Even after 4 years of ownership; 100 reliable, no squeaks or rattles, etc. The only thing is the dealer network being very light on the ground in Australia. Otherwise, I understand why the Guilia QV won every road test against the M3. Go figure.

Nearly fell over when I priced (before buying) the f80 brake pads and rotors, and suggest anybody interested in one of these should. Also the hub issue, its a big enough issue that there are clips of it happening on youtube, without these 2 things, I'd love an M3/4! And its not too fast!, to answer the question- more POWWWWEEEERRRR

F80 LCI in competition spec over a 2 door coupe (F82) any day, love the rear wheel arches. For a 2 door coupe wit similar performance (more fun), I’d pick the F87🎉 Love the fact that Jim highlighted the carbon deposit problem (for all direct injection engines, unless it's dual, Direct Injection + Port Injection like some Toyota engines) behind the intake valve & tracts, just fit a good design + quality oil catch can if you CAN, definitely worth the $ in the long run.

It’s strange, there were so many positive reviews for the M3 like this one, so a few years back I bought a 2016 M3 Comp, and sold it a year later very disappointed. It would have made for an amazing track car, but for my brief (an everyday drivers car) it just missed the mark. Firstly, the steering feel was terribly lifeless. Very sharp and you could place the car, but devoid of feel. And I’ve owned other electric setups (VF Commordore, MX-5) with electric steering and so much more feel. The second killer was the suspension. It’s adjustable, but even in comfort it was harsh, sending every crack in the pavement through the chassis and unsettling any hopes of a comfortable ride (again, I’ve had plenty of sports cars with a comfortable ride compared to this). Finally, the roars noise and car’s insulation was terrible in the Competition model. On the few times you could get on it without being caught be one of Australia’s speed cameras on every corner, you could see the brilliance of the car. As a performance machine it’s technically brilliant. But to live with as an everyday car, it was just missing the every day qualities for me.

‘Is it too fast for Australian roads?” I know I’m getting in late, I only recently discovered ‘ReDriven’ unfortunately but, regardless I will throw in my 10c worth. We live in Australia, the “Nanna state”. I wholeheartedly agree that there are a wide range of cars and an even wider range of drivers on our roads and so someone has to draw a line in the sand somewhere and cap speeds on our roads. I love the idea of the German Autobahn and although I’ve never been to Germany, I have been to France a couple of times. One trip to France we had hired a little manual Clio and I was driving, I was sitting on around 165km/h in the left lane (fast lane) passing some slower traffic and from behind me, probably 500m back, I copped some high beams flashing, I ducked back in to the centre lane ASAP only to be passed by a Porsche like I was doing 65km/h. He was probably doing 270+ km/h. Well above the speed limit. Look, we can’t do that in Australia, try that on the M1 between Sydney and Newcastle and you’ll be arrested or worse. Is the M3 too fast for Aussie roads? sure. Is a bottle of Scotch too much for one bloke to drink in a single sitting? Sure, but just because it’s there, doesn’t mean you have to drink it all. One could argue a Camry is too fast for Australian roads, heck a modern Camry will do 200km/h or more. My 1975 Renault 12 will do 150km/h. No, drive the BMW adhering to local speed limits and join a car club, do track days and enjoy it on the track.

@boffam003 жыл бұрын
Tuned in because we are almost certainly going to buy back our M3 when the lease ends next year. We love the car and frankly it’s irreplaceable (6MT). Review was spot on in all respects. A few more points: (1) Rear seat practicality is compromised because there is no fold down armrest or cupholders. Bizarre. (2) With proper winter tires this car is surprisingly awesome in the winter. But the associated brake rotor corrosion has made them annoyingly loud.
