I did the 750GS today and everything is exactly the same as the 850 in case anyone is wondering. Dang, the hose on the right side at 11:22 in the video was a bugger. I ended up removing the other end and snaking it through. I had to remove one end of the coolant overflow tube. I tried the trick of pulling back the airbox and it pulled the throttle bodies out from their lower boots. I cut the clamps and removed the whole box which was easy to do. I managed to get the throttle bodies back in by loosening the one screw that works like a hose clamp, it wasn't very hard. I used CV joint boot clamps for the boots and it worked perfectly, I think a hose clamp would have worked fine. I would recommend just removing the airbox and replacing the clamps. Yes, the plug tool from my 1250GSA worked perfectly and the spark plug socket I ordered from your link worked great. Pro-tip: I ran the engine for a minute before putting all the plastic on and sure enough the check engine light came on. A quick check with my GS911 told me I forgot to plug in the air sensor plug on the left side of the airbox. Your video was excellent and a great reference. Now it's time for those two beers!

The manual says "annually", obviously that will vary by rider/miles. A lot of riders will tell you not to worry about it until there's an issue or you need valves or anything done. My Harley's got changed for the first time around 25k miles.

When I levered back the airbox on my 850 GSA instead of the rubber air intakes bending back the lower end of the throttle body tubes pulled out of their respective intake tubes and I could not push them back in. However there is one 8 mm bolt head facing backwards right in between the lower end of the throttle body tubes which loosens and tightens the clamp straps on both the lower rubber tubes. Next time I will loosen this nut before I pull the airbox back, change the plugs, push the tubes back in and retighten the lower clamp. If you have compressed air available it may be an idea to blow any sand away from this junction so it doesn't drop into your engine. Otherwise your instruction were very helpful, Thanks.

Wow! So much more complicated than my 700GS with gas tank in back lolol But your instructions, tool recommendations, and great camera work Do make it look relatively easy. I really appreciate you doing this vid, as I'll be doing this on my 750 in a couple weeks for the 12k service. Liked and subscribed. Cheers from Daytona, Free State of Florida

Excellent review and not as bad as others I've seen. I haven't determined yet if I want the 850 or get the 1250 GSA. Trying to figure out how difficult valve adjustments are and other brands are pretty intense. I see you're just a couple of bolts away from removing the valve cover, guessing the valves use shims like all the others. I'll take a look at the rest of your videos to see if you tackle that job. good job, thanks.

I finally saw a 1250 Adventure in person, they're Much wider/bigger! I'm very happy with the 850 and how nimble it is in the woods...yeah, in the woods lol. Plus it fits around ski gates :) the 1250 Adventure would not.

Waiting for my New F750 GS to arrive, I seen plenty videos on - OIl change (easy) - Chain lube and adjust(easy) - Bleed brakes /change pads ( easy)...so thinking spark plugs can't be bad...YIKES was I wrong.

It looks like a lot but honestly it wasn't bad. Just a bunch of screws to keep track of if you're attempting to do this on the side of the road, I've flooded/hydrolocked my bike at least twice now, may be 3 times 🤔

Slightly off topic question; 1st, thanks for the video, I just found this (and you for that matter) and I really appreciate your work and the fact that you take the time to post your videos. 2nd, I have been thinking about buying a bike for a few years now, and I decided this is the year. I used to have one years ago and I miss it. So my next step was to identify which bike. I have loved Indians for years, but also had a thing for the GS's. For the past few months I've settled in on the f850GSA. Then, my heart was broken when, during more research, I learned that BMW has been making the engine for these bikes in China. I promised myself (way before Trump came along) that I would stop buying $h!+ made in China. And yes, I know (now more than ever) that every freaking Western company is making stuff over there. So now I have to debate myself on this topic. But, with this, came some videos talking about how the air filter is designed on this bike and how it has to be replaced often if it's getting a lot of dust in it, otherwise, the engine will get dirt in it and then you're screwed. So my long winded question, what's your take on this air filter issue?

We're on the same page brother. I'm a veteran and a patriot as much if not more than the next guy and will pay more for quality American made over chinese junk...unfortunately on some things we just have no choice. When I bought my Kubota for example I learned NO tractor over 25 hp is made in America. The GS1250 is the #1 selling Adventure bike in the world! Literally. I settled on the 850 as I don't need all that extra power and couldn't justify the extra cost...or even the extra cost for the GSA over the straight F850GS for that matter. Now to the actual question...nothing is perfect. I personally run a K&N and check it often. They're adventure bikes, mine crosses creeks...not always successfully thus this how to replace your spark plug video (hydrolocked it and had to blow the water out of the cylinders). The filters will always get dirty as we run them down dusty roads and trails. So, in my humble opinion...run a good filter, check it often and enjoy! I have had zero issues and have even flooded this bike twice...once fully submersed when I dumped it in a creek that was much deeper than I anticipated lol. My ole girl been through hell already and still running strong.

Great video - thanks. I'm going to change the plugs on my wife's F750GS, I think it should be the same.. right? Also, I have the plug boot removal tool for my R1250GSA, do you think it will work for the 750? It sort of looks the same. Good tip on the spark plug wrench, I'm getting one on order before I get started.
@rednecktech82
@rednecktech82 2 жыл бұрын
If the engine orientation on your 750 is the same then the process I would suspect is also the same. And I would also imagine the boot size on the 1250 would be the same as the 850 even though it is a larger engine.

Yeah definitely a bit more involved than the older bikes but it does go pretty quick, just a ton of screws to get the side panels off.
