I've riden an R1200RT but purchased a GTL a few months ago. There really is no comparison between the two bikes. The GTL is phenomenal. It's like flying an F15 jet. If you can swing the big price tag, you won't regret it.

I can not understand what you say, but I thank you for showing how to scroll down the menu and change some options of the bike. That helped me a lot!

The R1200 RT is a great bike, glad you like yours. I'm sorry you dropped it, I know what that feels like. I dropped my GTL while crossing a wet street car rail. I was only going 10 to 15 miles per hour but it did about $1000 damage and I broke a rib when I got slammed onto the pavement. With help I got the bike back up and rode it 300 miles for camping. I'm not sure what hurt the most; the broken rib, the damage to the new bike, or my pride. They are quite heavy.

I'm glad you're still in one piece! After your rib heals up, and you repair the damage, you can still enjoy riding it. Handle this bike with confidence and it will give you many more miles of pleasure riding. Keep the rubber side down! Ride safe, my friend!

If you think about it, you will have this bike for many years. Easily 5-10. With a finance for most of the purchase cost - this works out to maybe 100-120$ a week repayments. Even with the crappy $50-60,000 I have to get by with as a student - I could easily get one of these babies. I'm debating getting a used R1200RT or a brand new 1600. Only problem is that I know I want the GTL with all the trimmings and like you said its Around $42k in Australia. A used R1200RTcan be had for $8-12,000

I get enough stares being on an RT as I am only 20 y.o and not that big at 5'11/70kg. It's handy having crash bars as well. I got too cocky this afternoon in a parking lot and dropped the RT for the first time which nearly made me cry.
@davidgreve10816 жыл бұрын
Never is there room to get cocky while riding any bike. That's when danger really happens. Drive with the mindset that anything can happen and you have to be alert at all times. Your eyes should be scanning traffic all the time you're on it. The guy behind you,the cars coming from the sides, and the ones coming at you. Never take your eyes off the road unless you are stopped and in a parking area.

I just bought a 08 RT which I quite like. After having it for 3.5 weeks I can safely say that I have no trouble throwing it around, you just have to remember that below 2000RPM its clunky I actually like the BMW turn signals now and seeing that the GTL has the standard ones as well as the big 'piss pot' fluid containers on the bars kinda put me off it The computer menu on the GTL looks complicated and has a ton of features no doubt I would learn them quickly

Been riding a BMW R1200CL for 10 years. The product is over rated and over priced with serious mechanical flaws. This K1600 has two much electronics, is extremely heavy, has clucky trans and no reverse. BMW engineers who designed this model should be fired!

The latest versions, 2018-2019 models have hill control and reverse is standard. If you go at them with the mindset that they are not speedrockets and shouldnt be driven as if they were, you might enjoy the ride much better. Be sure to get shift assist pro and your shifting will be much more precise and not near as clunky. These bikes, you must respect them and drive them accordingly. They are not your average bike. They are not made to abuse. They are made to go many many miles without tiring the person in charge of controlling it. I've chatted with many drivers who have put on almost 1,000 miles a day without getting over fatigued. They are an amazing bike if you go at them in that point of view!! Btw, the bagger version is sweet and can do as much as any GTLE. It has the very same engine and sits a little lower to the ground.
