Curious Mr. Thomas while you were there at the event did you get a chance to see the 7 series as well? only curious because wondering if there's any difference in the exterior from the 7 series and the i7 even if only it's a slight difference ... Since the release I've seen some angle photos where the 7 series kind of resembles Bentley lines and the i7 looked little different , anyway just curious

Yeah it's a bit too square, too rolls roys look alike. And that tablet...they should integrate that in the dashboard not just let it float like that. But I like the car overall, I think it's pretty neat. I don't like the EQS style on the outside and the EQXX is a bit too much. The interior in the EQXX is a big NO. I think the i7 is pretty well designed it might have a different impact if you see it in person. I don't like the new S class interior neither. It's a fail from me. It think the i7 is the best till now. The screen in EQS is a bit too big, a bit too much

Other than the absence of physical HVAC and favourite buttons, I like it. Although the absence of the V8 in Europe is (sad) news. Another reason to move to the US. 740d is normally a good steer though. I also appreciate the way you remove you shoes when trying the foot rest - properly respectful :)

Hi Thomas, excellent review as usually, thanks for your commitment to the car community. As a BMW fan boy, I think that BMW is still keeping the emphasize on the driving experience. I really appreciate the head of interior design, who really nails the last production cars released lastly. I’m not so sure about the exterior who mixes Asian front end design with (cocorico I am french) the DS9ish back design. My opinion is, that car is mostly suited for the Asian market rather than European. I am certainly a boomer but definitely this exterior design doesn’t speak to me, I feel nostalgic and in love with the e38 design, last and best ever design IMAO. I really wonder what happens in the head of the current BMW designers. While the technology is undeniably impressive, that UI and overall design approach reminds me a lot of the E65. BMW has lost its identity, and this car is yet another confirmation of this fact. It's sad, and reminds us to preserve the cars we have, because someday a new car will just be one giant grille.

My heart is bleeding... Where's the "physical things"... Buttons, speedometer, even climate control... Interior feels like it has no real soul. And the real BMW motors already died long ago.

I would argue the tech is also not very impressive. They slapped on screens like the S class had, and now most cars have. Having touch screens in the back is a nice gimmick, but you could put in 10-15 year old phones and it would be the same, it's nothing really advanced. The TV makes no sense because it's not in front of you if you're sitting in the two rear seats, and it's a weird wide aspect ratio which means all content will be cropped heavily. You get an 8k display, 1-2 feet away from your face, at a weird angle, without any footage because you'd need at least 16k just to be able to crop enough of the top and bottom to fit this thing...I don't see the point. I do like some of the design ideas like adding some glass materials like in the Lexus LS, speakers near the driver's head and some laser cut speaker grills, though that particular pattern looks very messy...But overall it looks like a mess of random ideas and a really unappealing exterior with headlights out of a Hyundai Kona or older Jeep Cherokee. Between that and cloth seats with those plain V patterns, take out the screens and it doesn't scream "expensive". Maybe it'll grow on me but at first glance I think BMW should replace their exterior design team.

@@nikolas9409 It's not merely about the size. It's how they are designed. Audi's grille are proportionally designed with the overall look of the front end of their cars. Meanwhile BMW still trying to use their iconic kidney grilles but just 10 times larger. The lines are incoherent between one and the other. There's just too much going on. They used to look simple and classy, then they made it messy like a Lexus. They're getting even worse, now they look like a Ssangyong.

The negative thing about sharing the same body with the ICE version is the giant shaft tunnel which is quite odd and space losing for an EV. Other elements are OK. Grille size is good and has presence. Detailed first review as expected from our Thomas.

Did you check out the maybach version of A8 ? ….. looks sooooo normal. But yes the new 7 definitely looks better than the S class , however am not sure why they took out the long tail lamp strip which makes the car looks more luxury

The thing I like about current BMW design is the fact that it challenge your initial perception. Then, after seeing the model regularly on the streets, you find they don't become boring, but rather exciting. I believe this is intentional... and it works. Must be frustrating for BMW on release day, thought.

Interesting differences in approach with regards developing their EV business. Merc believes they have to build an EV brand from scratch and hence the distinct, low COD design of the EQS. BMW on the other hand is blending the two and using the new designs associated with EVs as an opportunity to introduce bold designs for its traditional models.

The interior looks beautiful, one of thr best I've seen. The front end works well on the X7 not sure it works as well on the sedan.... Looking foward to the next 5 series which should have some of the interior bits but a more traditional exterior.

Hi Thomas, great video as always, but I have one question. When the 'executive position' is activated, and the front passenger seat is fully forward, can the driver still use the door mirror on the front passenger side? It looks on the video to be obscured. If that is the case, surely a safety issue?

Check out the Nio ET7. Perhaps you will be in for a surprise. The UI might have been impressive when compared to my 2008 car, but it looks pretty bad in 2022.

As Thomas Said this has more character and presence compared to EQS ... yes the grill is bit hideous at first look but I am sure it will grow on you ..This car has majestic presence compared to old one BMW is going behind RR style .. from Doors carpet headlight ... no wonder even if they offer 'Extend Wheelbase version' of i7 / 7series

Perhaps I’m watching a video of a different vehicle. The car I’m looking at doesn’t have the panache or presence of a big Benz, although I’m not a head-over-heels fan of the EQS shape yet (I am of the S580, though😉). You’re right, the grill is hideous and the lights are garish with the blue bits. Other than the front of the car (which is hideous) is rather pedestrian - nice, of course, but not a Mercedes.

That interior looks very much like the 7 series interiors of old - like a 2015 730i. A huge center console taking up space and a weird aluminum-foil looking speaker panel on the doors. The interior isn’t as hideous as the front of the car, but it isn’t special. All in all, a pedestrian looking car with no panache.

Wow...I am not a fan of EVs but this is awesome. I generally like a great engine sound in cars. But the quiet of EV is great for ultimate luxury cars. I would probably go EV in the 7 unless I was going to use it for long road trips. I use an X7 long road trips in the US currently and don't have to worry about charging. I would buy this over the EQS and this is miles ahead of anything Tesla has.
