Yo came to California? Omg welcome wish I would have randomly run into you. I was born in Wien but now live in Los Angeles. I can tell you that Wien is so much better than any city in America that's why it's always rated number 1 city to live in year after year (you can Google it). I know Vienna isn't Der Vaterland and I know GER/AUT have some sibling rivalry going sometimes but still much love to Deutschland 🌹
@davidt80872 жыл бұрын
BTW at 13:28, where a German says that it won't hurt much it won't be an accident using pure logic because Germans are logical, an American reviewer would say something like "this is such a bad design, it will kill someone, it is so dangerous skmeone will die from this. Bad design bmw. Bmw should have installed ten more sensors and made the door close more slowly and Havr a built in camera with face/body detection for safety". Yea Americans are this childish. All of them.

Just because the US doesn't mandate amber rear turn signals on vehicles, it doesn't make any sense why they would not just keep the amber for the ones sent to the US. Amber turn signals are much more ideal. I wish it were a rule in the US.

27:45 For such a large vehicle the space in the rear doesn't seem to be more than in a regular short wheel S class for instance. Sure, due to the forward moving passenger seat you can create more space for one person but then nobody can sit in the front. I think for a normal executive vehicle in the luxury class a long wheelbase S class or previous 7 series offers still more legroom for 2 passengers in the rear than the new BMW. It's sort of a hybrid, more space than in the previous 7 series regular version but less than in the longer version.

50cm longer than my 35 year old 7 series and the trunk capacity is exactly the same while being much narrower xD I mean, come on. Just a lot of fancy tech which will get old really quick without bringing anything substantial as improvement on the table. Where I live M760e Xdrive base price (140 000 euro) is still lower than what base 750 E38 used to go for when new with inflation adjusted. And it shows everywhere you touch.

The car interiors of the 2020’s make me think of the 1980’s when the first dot-matrix printers came on the consumer market and people overdid it on fonts. I hope designers get back to a more understated design language and prioritise function over form in the next iteration of the cars.

Good to see BMW nailed a car both for the electric and the combustion engine customers. BMW is going left field so fast. BMW 7 and X7 are hideous and remind me of horrible automotive design from the 90s. The 3 series also looks horrid compared to the pre-facelift in 2022 which then was amazing. They’re pushing so hard on less buttons and a single pane of glass for screens, it looks horrible compared to the last gen’s digital display cockpit and separate infotainment display. You loose the sense of being in a ‘driver’s cockpit’ with separate displays and modest amount of physical buttons. It’s especially out of place for a sedan. At this point, I appreciate more Audi’s separate displays, including a driver’s cockpit design. BMW’s latest designs are too radical, loose practicality and refinement, and cause controversy for their attempt at forcing people to pay extra or subscribe for heated seats, which budget cars include for free- outright scandalous. It seems many US state legislatures (notably New Jersey) are getting ready to prohibit this practice of subscriptions for hardware already included. Rant over.
@steveluth31392 жыл бұрын
I wish you could choose between this one and a more classic looking cockpit, the long digital displays just don't give a real luxury feeling for me.

Nice review Thomas. I also appreciate your willingness to compare this new BMW 7-series with the S-class like I own and am interested in for my next vehicle. I am very partial to the Oxide Gray i7, and just don't like the BLACK imposed on all buyers of the ICE 7-series. I can get a 2023 740i for just over $100K, but must take the blackout treatment I don't like. To avoid it, I must spend $124K on the electric i7!!! Cannot understand BMW forcing a blackout treatment on all ICE 7 series buyers!

I like it. Interior material and build quality seems impeccable and well above the A8 and S Class. I like the interior design. It's looks luxurious and special. The new S Class doesn't look very special or luxurious. The previous gen W222 interior was a hit and looked amazing even today it still does. Mercedes pioneered the side by side screens and now everyone has copied it even BMW. But now Mercedes has moved away from it and their interiors look worse now. They should've just refined it like everyone else has and make the bezels thinner and screens larger. Curve it maybe and make it freestanding.
@TheWarpYoshimitsu2 жыл бұрын
Impeccable interior materials except the center console and arm rests on doors being cover in gloss black plastic trash. I agree that this beats the EQS easily. Seems Mercedes just wanted to push product. Doesn't stand up to the heritage of the S class.

I7 is a compromised ICE platform based. It's therefore very heavy, less efficient, smaller interior compared to Pure EV platform car of this size. It's drag coefficient is much worse than EQS Model S and Nio ET7. It's transmission tunnel running at the back has nothing inside, a reminder of compromise.

This car's headlights feel like the spiritual successor to the pop up headlights. Looks like they wished they could only use the top part for all lighting purposes, but the technology is not there yet. The lower lights are kind of hidden, blacked out, only there because they are needed, in a way just like pop up headlights. Also the stitching on the sensatec seats, both the black and light one, is not straight at all... are these prototype cars?

Fantastic review, as always! Something that caught my attention - you mention that there are very few differences between the ICE and EV versions of the 7 Series from the driver's seat. What about the paddles? I believe the i7 only has a left paddle, while the ICE variant has both.

@@autogefuehl Yes, the right paddle is visible in the 760 Li at 35:10, while it is missing on the i7 at 47:47 :)

Thomas is the best car review guy, but I hate the split head lights and I think its the ugliest and worst design in BMW, it look so ugly and more like Hyundi or Kia, from the back it looks like Toyota Avalon. it just does not have that BMW presence

Those door closing buttons are awful. I just watched another review from a US auto journalist, and while demonstrating the capacitive AC vent open/close control, he accidentally swiped on it a bit too much and activated the door close button. That is TOTAL ergonomic failure by BMW. There either should be more distance between the door close button and any other control, or the door button should have been a physical button that requires a firm click down on it to activate, to avoid accidental activation, and not a capacitive control. It baffles me how such glaring design flaws make it past testing and into production.
