Maybe not the Coupé, but the Roadster for sure: only 3,200 (2,600 LHD) were produced. From the Z8 more than 5700 were produced and it doubled the price within a few years.

Probably not, due to the extensive use of technology. It will start to show it's age soon. And keeping that tech running will cost more than the car is worth
@klausnielsen71024 жыл бұрын
In order for it to become a future classic it has to be alive/working in the future. Not very compatible with modern BMWs that’s more or less dropped my there mother when warranty runs out.

Thanks for posting this update. I will also warn your viewers that are interested in an i8 that many issues that popped up on the oldest models have a significant repair cost. Getting a BMW extended service contract may cost thousands, but save the owner tens of thousands. These failures appear to be age dependent and not mileage dependent.

Thanks for the info. Could you elaborate a bit on the issues?

Many thanks for this interesting video! I bought my i8 roadster exactly 1 year ago as new. It was reduced from 195.000 CHF to 110.000.- CHF ( official BMW dealer in Switzerland) since then it has lost (nearly) nothing. I would have lost much more money e.g. with a new 911. At least in Europe, all i8s were sold with similar reductions, so the depreciation is very small.
@klausnielsen71024 жыл бұрын
Same here in Norway. My Roadster was reduced from 1.560.000 to 870.000. Judged on what they are offered at in the marked they have lost very little compared to the true sales price, but they are very hard to sell. A very large proportion of the i8 here are constantly for sale.

Great vid and spot on with 14 and 15 cars having done their money. I'd caveat your don't buy new message though with a big figure of 40%! - 40% is the discount that the last to be sold new coupe and roadsters are going for in UK - if you factor that in and the fact they are rarer (especially Roadster) and better to drive - a new car makes a lot of sense if you get it for 60% of RRP and I would say the car will stop depreciating much beyond the 6/10ths of retail, within the next 12 months too now there are so few about as you say! A huge future investment car is the i8 as Major Manufacturer that try to sell supercars come a cropper as they always flop (because at the time people wanted the cache of a Porsche and Ferrari badge), but then in 20 yrs or so they are very rare and very expensive eg the 1963-67 Toyota 2000 Gt, 2005-2008 Ford GT and 1978-1982 E26 M1!!

Would love to see an analysis on the BMW E85/E86 Z4M Roadster and Coupe. It makes the short list when comparing to the Cayman and Boxsters.
@robmccall50173 жыл бұрын
Interesting Analysis. Yet it would have been interesting to differentiate between the Coupe and the Roadster. Over here in Germany Prices for the Roadster are going up! I bought mine 3 Months ago for 98.000 Euros (2018 Model 11.000km, New Price 144.000 Euros) By now there is no accident free Roadster below 112.000 Euros. My Conclusion: The I8 Roadster is a very good „Investment“ Car; the Prices will rise since very few Roadsters on Market and no Further Production! Cheers From München Mark

Thanks for your input. I didn't include the split between the Coupe and the Roadster because the depreciation curves don't show any significant differences. One reason might be that there are relatively few roadster for sale. I'm trying to free up some time so that i can also do again analyses of the German market.
@robmccall50173 жыл бұрын
@@fourwheeltrader thx for the quick response; well the number of produced Roadsters is significantly lower so at least in Germany they hold the Price quite well plus all of the Roadsters are Gen2 Models what also makes a Big Difference. In my Opinion the Roadster is going to be a Collectors Car.

Could be because has 1.5l engine inside...can anyone confirm if this engine is solid (90,000+miles) cool looking car am still laughing at the fake engine noise
@paulthorpe7663 жыл бұрын
Had two coupe and Roadster - engines are bullet proof - bit that goes wrong is the complex water cooling of both engines (elec and combustion) cost about £1500 at yr 6 - but overall cost of running one is very very low fuel insurance tyres and av service every 2 yrs about £350 and battery pack still fine at 7 yrs old too.

Great analysis! Even if it does assume MSRP, which isn't too far off from typical price paid for BMW's. BTW - There is a whole site dedicated to this: caredge.com/bmw/i8/depreciation
