Okay Lol I’ve driven tons of supercars including Lambos, Ferrari’s, and so on. I personally think that this should be classified as a supercar. But I think if people haven’t driven or at least ridden in cars clearly classified as supercars then they shouldn’t the ones calling the shots on what’s considered a supercar and what’s not considered a supercar.

Thanks David. No question this is a great daily. I have gotten 100 MPGe with all the fun of massive torque in a car that looks great. I drive it all winter too--not sure you would do that with a 918. For what it is, its a fun car & you're right, looking forward to the next versions of these hybrids. They can only get better.

Test drove one of these today when BMW had it outside my work. I can't come close to being able to afford it, but it was hilarious fun to drive. Damn good acceleration, HUD, great interior, and those doors are sexy as hell. People can say it looks ugly but, in person at least, it's a gorgeous car.

Exactly what I thought, to me the Ford Formula Ecoboost came to mind. I think an i8 with an aftermarket exhaust might sound really cool. At the very least you might get actual exhaust note in the cabin. Rather than fake bullshit speaker sound BMW loves using these days.

2:56 Well it's not just the gas mileage. It has fewer cylinders than any other supercar and less tire, and maintenance on electric motors is minimal (they have one moving part), so the maintenance bills are minimal compared to other supercars.

I might buy this some day but now I have save for other things and you need place to charge it also to get the MPG benefit.Went from Cayman R to Mustang GT for more practicality, but this MR-layout i8 has back seats and got me interested!

A 3 cylinder should sound similar to a flat 6. Same firing order and pulses. Just instead of two cylinders per pulse it is one. Much the same way a flat crank v8 sounds a lot like an inline 4.

Sigma Projects Sound is all about pulses and that is not strictly linked to cylinder count. I would rather an i3 or i5 than an i4 for example. i4's never sound good really.

What I see in the future is hybrid muscle cars. And still with a stick. The V8 can be kept since gas mileage would be so good, and stop n go traffic and city driving wouldn't be a problem bc you could use the electric motors and not worry about the clutch

David, I know you're not a motorcycle-guy, but seriously look up a sound clip of a Triumph Daytona 675 with an aftermarket exhaust. You're idea of a three cylinder will be changed forever. There's a reason why practically every Motorcycle Journalist has praised the Triumph (and now Yamaha) Triples for their amazing F1-like sound.

Since its a hybrid, it's two motors working in unison, along with a shit ton of heavy batteries and other components. More important than the weight itself is the weight distribution, which is near perfect and you also have to consider the huge wheels and tires it gets. And it's AWD. . That'll do it

I think the 918 is a true supercar made for the racetrack and the occasional daily-use, while the i8 is more of a GT, travel long distances very relaxed and still comparetively fast.

The BMW i8 is definitely a cool looking car. Any car that has the longer shape in length, 2 doors, gives me that supercar feel. Some people saying it's not a supercar, but it's a supercar in my book lol. The only thing is it doesn't sound good. That is the one reason I wouldn't get one. The GTR sounds dope, looks cool. But the GTR doesn't have the look I'd be going for if I wanted a supercar.

I got to ride in one of these. I honestly thought it was a little boring. It was fast but it was just so smooth and boring. The interior was too small for me, I'm only 6'1". I also think it's kind of ugly. It doesn't sound very good. I'm just not a huge fan of it. I would take a Corvette or an r8 or almost any other super car than this.
