Listening to the i8 from the outside, most people would never guess it's powered by a 3 cylinder engine. Considering its green credentials, BMW should be congratulated on how capable the i8 is while delivering such low emissions. The noise inside the car from the computer generated engine and exhaust noise is over the top though, in my opinion. There should be a switch to turn it off, in my opinion.

For those thinking the I8 is an EV, it’s actually a hybrid powered by a 1.5L TwinPower turbo 3-cylinder engine, combined with an eDrive Electric motor

The electric sound on these is very cool. The exhaust note is improved over the previous generation, but I wish they put a supercharger on it or a larger engine. Engine can be chipped to give 50hp more which gives you a different experience.

I know that it's hard to record the sounds of cars. Do you feel that your videos represent the sound of what these cars sound like in real life? I'm asking because, for me, they usually sound like someone put a sock on the microphone. I mean no hate or no disrespect towards your channel. An example is that some channel would say that a Porsche turbo S sounds boring when it in fact in real life will turn heads compared to a "normal car". It just seems like people who have no real experience/youtube experience kinda think that it's all about badges and.. stuff. :)

A 991 Turbo S does indeed sound pretty good compared to a normal car, but it still sounds boring compared to something like a 458.

We record car sounds in the best possible way in high quality. Problem is that most people watch those videos on their smartphone with poor speaker quality. That means high tones are repeated well why deep tones (modern Turbo cars) aren‘t. That leads to the general opinion that new cars don‘t sound as good as old cars....while in real life it’s often the other way round or at least based on the individual model.

@@mikeyaperta5980 The left exhuast is fake and has a speaker. To me it's strange there are no decent videos about it, that nobody has lifted the car up and inspected it on a KZbin video. If you disable Active Sound on the i8 via coding or unplugging, it doesn't alter the exterior fake noise.

Well, I did never experience the battery to be fully empty, every time you brake or go to a low battery level energy is taken back and charges the battery, that’s different to other hybrids.

Couldn't disagree with you more. Love my Roadster, also love my 67 GTO and the 59Caddy I just sold . Haved worked for Honda, Toyota and Cadillac as both mechanic and service manager. I race motorcycles and rebuild my own engines. The technology in the i8 blows my mind. I'm more a "real" car guy than 99.9% of the population.

Leider ein sehr Erfolgloses Auto geworden. Imageträger für BMW - Ja! Aber kein Verkaufsschlager! Man hätte weder den Grundpreis auf ca 90.000€ drücken sollen oder für den jetzigen Grundpreis von 150 Tacken einen R6-Motor (sagen wir mal ca. 350-400 PS) mit E-Motor kombiniert und nicht diese Energiespar-Reifen montieren. BMW fehlt es immernoch an einem reinen Sportwagen (zwei Türen, zwei (plus zwei) Sitze und ausschließlich große Verbrennungsmotoren (oder ein potentes Hybridsystem). Der i8 ist nichts halbes und nichts ganzes: Sieht aus wie ein Supersportwagen, ist fahrdynamisch aber keiner. Mein Traum für BMW: Optisch ein i8 mit Auspuffrohren und 305er Reifen auf der Hinterachse. Ein Mittelmotor Reihen-6 Zylinder aus dem M4 treibt die Hinterachse an und das i8 Hybridsystem die Vorderachse. Und keine anderen Motorisierungen anbieten, dann hätte BMW eindlich mal ein Konkurrenzprodukt zu AMG GT, R8 und 911.

The sound is amplified, NOT RECREATED! I actually really like the sound, and I have the Roadster. I traded in a 2013 Mercedes SL 550, V8. It had a lovely, muted V8 growl. That's just how I like it. I hate the loud exhaust that wakes the entire neighborhood when Buster comes home. I have ZERO issue with the sound and I'm glad they enhanced it. It looks too expensive and is too expensive to sound like a Toyota.But if you are into vomiting, go right ahead. Eating disorders can be treated, you know.
