NEW VIDEO: Henry Catchpole takes a look at the new BMW i8, and evaluates whether hybrid and electric cars really are the future of the performance car: bit.ly/1wA3vPo What are your thoughts on the subject?
@Orcawhale110 жыл бұрын
I don't get the point with fully electric cars, as your just moving the co2 from the cars till the power plants.. And then we have the batteries themselves which is a horrible business, that transmit a ton of co2 into the atmosphere... Hydrogen cars on ther hand, is the future.
@iliasiliasilias1010 жыл бұрын
spekhugger revolutionary thought: Solar energy to power the outlet you charge your car from.
@derekmack8010 жыл бұрын
spekhugger Not all the energy has to come from coal. Plus burning coal is much more efficient overall than refining and burning petrol. Seriously, this argument is the new "if humans came from apes, why are there still apes?". Both show a completely misunderstanding of the facts and both are simply wrong

Great job Henry, that was an epic review. Sheds some new light on the hybrid and electric cars that is looking more and more likely to fully replace all vehicles one day. In sports cars there will likely be for a long time still an engine combined with an electric motor, while normal everyday cars are probably heading more in the direction of fully electric. Still, we can enjoy motoring with an engine probably for as long as i'm alive anyway but one day the change will have to take place and it doesn't have to be a bad thing. Motors still has a place in cars as long as there's oil left, but this way we can cut down our consumption of it and make the petrol and diesel powered cars survive longer combined with "new" tech.

I've been reading Evo magazine religiously since issue no5. I love it because I have fuel pumping through my veins; it's all for the thrill of driving. I expected not to enjoy this video talking appraising a 'hybrid'... Hybrids are the enemy after all. Aren't they? But instead I find myself really intrigued; I could see myself really wanting one of these!
@Gavownian10 жыл бұрын
Great vid! Production on these EVO mini-films is getting better and better all the time, I have to say. Also, although he was already very good, Mr. Catchpole's presenting has gotten much better over time. He speaks a little louder now, so I can actually hear him clearly, and with better diction. I'm sure it's down to becoming more comfortable with the medium, but it genuinely seems like he's just having a spirited conversation with me, the viewer now. But what about the Car? Personally, I've never been a big fan of BMW's. I've always respected them but never really lusted after one. However, this i8 and the new i3 though are phenomenal. I love that you can hoon around in a great looking comfortable sports car and still feel responsible in regards to fuel use/global warming/noise pollution etc. Don't get me wrong, I still love Ferrari's and Lambos and loud, growling, screeching supercars- but now you can have fun everyday in an i8 and save the wailing banshee for maybe the weekend?

Another great EVO video! Like the retrospective style. i8 very clever, like the full fat electric torque fill, quiet through towns / villages / traffic jams! Clever carbon tube. But it's about as much character as last years washing machine (anything trying to hard be "the future" is in danger of dating paradoxically) Put all that tech into a 911 and you've got the perfect EVO car! Not long to wait I imagine, 991 gen2?

Benjamin Rice Not at all...I try to drive the Porsche at least once a day, otherwise I write off the day as a net loss. I just like when established technologies get edged out for the better. And it's exciting to see that so many of these efforts don't sacrifice performance and fun.

The i8 is a fantastic car both in terms of looks and performance which are right up there with all the big boys. There is nothing wrong with the 3 cylinder engine and by the way, downsizing is getting more common now and you can't do anything about it so you'd better get used to it instead of hating like everyone else.
