It's also not the real world. If you can afford ixm60 there's no way in hell you're going to drive it like that. The test Kyle conducted is pretty meaningless. How many steadydrives do you conduct? I just bought a 330xi because I couldn't get an electric car in a reasonable period of time. It's a 4 cyl and all things considered it's a reasonably sprited car. The car is rated 34 highway. I just did a 200 mile trip, all highway, low traffic, and very little speed deviation averaging around 70mph. The calculated MPG displayed on the dash at the end of the trip was in excess of 38 mpg. I put the car in comfort mode which dumbs down the car's throttle response considerably. I'm not sure I believe the calculated mpg, but I can assure you my road trip was simply not real world. It was a 1 in 100 road trip. If you just plunked down $105k on a car, are you really going to drive it like your "grandma" I know I wouldn't.

I'm still waiting for the beta testers to finish their testing, and I'll make my decision then. II've owned BMWS for the most part for the past 30 years. The last one I purchased a 3 weeks ago is beginning to disappoint with build issues and obvious short cuts to reduce cost. Monitoring systems t are malfunctioning after 2000 miles. . The motors are not induction motors. They are externaly excited motors, which adds some additional advantages and disadvantages compared to induction motors. The main disadvantage is that there needs to be a slip ring to apply power to the rotor. (hence externally excited, unlike induction where the rotor current is induced from the stator field. ) The main advantage is that the motor controller can control the rotor magnetic flux density directly by changing the rotor current.
@sbrubak2 жыл бұрын
@@skellington2000 , keep in mind that those bear no comparison to brushes in dc motors. An externally excited motor does not need to commutate using the brushes, so the slip rings are smooth and there is no arcing which is what wears the brushes in a dc motor the most .

I think it's due to how Tesla does their EPA testing vs everyone else. The EPA drive cycle has 5 tests, but only 2 are required. If you turn traction off in sport mode you can easily break the back end loose around curves and it corners *far* more eargerly than a 6,000lb vehicle has any right to. Do you not like the joystick control more? Seems annoying to reach around like that. Beautiful car!

I know you go to great lengths for accuracy adjusting speed by 1 mph. Should you not also adjust the odometer a corresponding amount - 1.4% in this case? Personally I think there are enough variables that your results are plenty accurate. Instead of 339 perhaps the more accurate range on the test is 335. Food for thought.

The lane changes are probably within 5 seconds, as I believe that is a requirement for the German market.

I just did a test drive of iX M60 and the throttle tuning must have been an issue on your car only, perhaps one of those BMW ghost things. My tester was as smooth as a Tesla, and the Regen was more pleasant than Tesla

did i hear that right? $43 to charge? thats not much cheaper than filling up a regular gas gallon tank. ive always thought EV charging is less than $20
@ericaschner32832 жыл бұрын
Well, that's 12.6¢ per mile. At $3.50/gallon, you'd need to get 28mpg to break even. At $4/g, you'd need 32mpg. The x5 (closest ICE comparison) gets 13mpg city and 18 highway. To go 340 miles on the highway you'd need 19 gallons, or $76 at $4/g. Orrrr you could charge at home for much less. In CO average is about 13¢/kWh so about $13.60 to fully charge. Orrrr you could get solar panels and after initial cost your fill up price is $0.

Curiously the EPA ranges for the 2024 models differ from earlier years and do not depend on wheel size. Specifically the 2024 EPA ranges are 307 miles for the xDrive50 and 296 miles for the M60. So almost the same range, but still well below the 339 miles Kyle obtained in the 2023 M60. Interesting now would be a side by side range test with both 2024 models. How about it Kyle! :)

Wow and you accidentally left the passenger vented seat on, which I noticed in other iXs that for some reason it turns the passenger vented seat on even if no one is in it

You can't see them. The phone camera has a wider wavelength range than the human eye and picks up IR a lot. You can test this by opening up your cell phones camera and flashing your TV remote at it.

With this efficiency, who needs 105kWh? I would easily choose the cheaper iX40 if I was in the market for this kind of car.

I prefer a big battery but don't need all that horse power. If I can get the hp of the 40 and 100kwh battery, that is the killer affordable ev from bmw.
