Thanks a lot!! a friend gave the bike to me after his son damaged the gearbox case bi hitting the kickstand cracked the case and the bike lost all the transmission oil, I took the gearbox case apart and one spring came off and I had no idea where it was, after I saw your video the spring was there. much appreciated.

Very useful and helpful video. Question, how did you find that smth is wrong in you transmission? Can you describe symptoms. I have also smth wrong with my transmission and wold like to compare before I will take apart.

I used a bearing puller and some heat on the inner race.

How did you get the bad bearing off the input shaft? I didn't see that in the video. Thanks.

Kirk Do You can send list of bearings and seals what I will need to replaced on gearbox, I can not found on manual what number the ar Many Many Thanks

I do not remember doing that since I had the bearing pressed on at a shop

Hello used to owned a 2002 R1150rs , this was the best boxer I have ever owned I took care of it like it was my baby, one day a car. Hite me from behind and totaled it now I'm looking into the BMW K1300s what have you heard about is it. Is there anything I should know is it a good BMW is the clutch ABS ok, is it hard to set the valves. I did all the work on RS myself, and keep up the good work I put 77k on it before she was murdered, I like watching your videos

I recall you said in the video that you used non-OEM seals. Did you get them online or do you have a local supplier that matched them up? I checked Beemer Boneyard and did not see seals.

+LTVoyager I got most of them from ebay. Just match up the sizes. Get the rear main from BMW.

Was your cover useable after being chewed up by the gear? Or did you have to buy another?

Are things all well two years later? No seal leaks or any other issues since the repair?

+LTVoyager Im glad you asked! I now have 83K on it and have no leaks or problems whatsoever!

+illinoisBMWriders That is great. I am going through this also, well only transmission failure was all three rotating shaft seals were leaking, but this took out my clutch. I don't know why all three seals would leak at 9 years and 54,000 miles, but maybe BMW got a bad batch that year as I also had to replace the pinion seal a couple years ago. I am hoping new seals are all I need and I don't have something more serious like burrs or scratches on the shafts. I am replacing them externally without splitting the case open. I checked my input shaft front bearing and it feels very tight with no detectable radial play and the shafts all rotate very smoothly.

A great question! It depends on how bad it was damaged. If one of the gears had been messed up then yes. Otherwise it still is a good used trans! It just has a bad bearing and some seals. Besides, sometimes my itchy fingers just want to take things apart!! :-)
