Inline 6 cyl- 24valve - 1650cc - it is indeed a proper sport tourer -though I own a GT version - I liken it to my hayabusa except more comfortable and flickable - possibly the best touring motorcycle I have ever owned -great review 👍🏻

Hi Royston. I own a Gen 3 Hayabusa which I love and have no issues riding distances. I am planning a 2,000 mile tour from the UK to Spain in 2024 and am contemplating buying a K1600GT for the job. Will I feel as though it is lethargic/slow compared to the Hayabusa?

@@BibTheBoulderTheOriginalOne If you go for the GT I don’t think there is a world of difference though not the GTL as the ergos are quite different. Speed wise it really feels a close call between the two in regular road riding with handling feeling marginally better on the beemer possibly due to the front suspension set up. Ride safe.

@@22Royston There’s no significant differences between the GT and the GTL. The position is more sporty on the GT. Acceleration is exactly the same, the speed limit is around 270 for the GT when it is around 230 for the GTL. The rest is almost the same but little details. GT have a higher position pegs, shorter hand bar, seat is higher.

Have the 719 on my gtl 1600 . Upgraded lights even on rear compartment . Nav upgrade was 1,300 . Tank of a bike and I'm 6-2 260 . Smooth and sexy once your rolling . You won't be disappointed . Especially if you max out on the upgrades .

I think the 1600 is a fantastic machine. A wonderful touring moto. The weight is what makes it so smooth but if dropped it's extremely heavy. I tipped mine over in a parking lot, yep, thought the sidestand was down, but the engine guards totally protected the plastics. A very minute scuff on the bottom of the rear case, but no ral damage. I absolutely enjoyed this bike. The exhaust note and the sound of the big 6 is unlike any other bike. sounds like a performance sport bike to me. I love my RT, maybe I'll get back on the 1600?

Excellent bike. Too bad BMW added very poor navigation with their Connected App - Apple CarPlay would've been a much better option. And everyone else is adding Active Cruise Control, but BMW leaves this out on their top touring bike.

great review but yet again the big issue they seldom address is holding the bike at a stop and the massive weight change with a passenger on board. Another top reviewer told how at 5.8 inch height he had difficulty holding the bike at standstill and would not buy one because with a passenger it would go over when stopped at the lights and so on. That needs addressing in all reviews so us bikers can average out each reviewers feelings on the issue. otherwise, thanks for a great review.

Thanks and you got a point. I had my spouse on it and when coming to a stop it was really important for her to sit still and centered because you could feel the uneven balance at times. But still, I think it handled it rather well. But you might need a passenger that is used to riding bikes so they keep the blance in check. Heavy bike it is, but really nice. The K1600GT, not the GTL, is the best bike, certainly for any roads with bends as the riding position is much better. The GTL is a sit upright and cruise position whereas the GT leans you slightly forward for a more involving ride with better feel. The bikes are significantly different to ride and yet BMW doesn't highlight the differences in it's marketing material at all.

I have the K1200rs Williams from 2003. The best bike ever had before. I had several New Honda, s. But was al crap. Motor problems after a few months gearbox problems pfffffffffffff

This bike is a bad mofo. The maintenance is kind of a pain with the oil plug within an oil plug, and the valve service is pricey at dealer rates. That being said, I want one. I do my own maintenance anyways.

Goldwing is much slower than the K1600 , Goldwing is not as smooth feels more like a tractor 🚜 in lower gears. BMW is a superior bike by far.

But you cannot compare the engines. An in-line 6 cylinder compared to a boxer twin. I own both a K1600GTL and a GSA1250 and getting from the K1600 onto the GSA is like going from a Rolls Royce into a Lada. I take your point about the weight etc but the K1600 was designed as a fast, comfortable long distance tourer. The boxer engine is "tractor-like" and noisy and just not made for that all day type of fast touring. The sound of an in-line 6 cylinder engine is pure bliss.

@@newboscoddog01 Your spot on. But the boxer engine has a raw charm that I think works great on the R18 for exemple. Gives it a bit of shake. The K1600 is smooth like a Rolls for sure. Great bikes with a lot more presence now then back in the days. Thanks for watching 🙏

I’ve done long tours of 5,000 plus mile on both my boxer & my 1600 GT. Hands down for day after long day of riding, the GT is the go to. Different cylinders for different folks. There is something out there for everyone. I loved my 1200 GT and this one is even better. IMO anyway 😀

It really depends on your ability and your confidence in what the bike can do. Have a look at videos of Chris Pfeiffer doing stunts on a K1600 - incredible! So the bike can and DOES handle. (Just wish I had half the skills of Chris!!!)

If you're aiming for a US audience, you should be aware that "cruiser" is a specific market segment here, not just any bike suitable for long distance riding. And this is NOT a cruiser. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cruiser_(motorcycle)
